Not a bad deal, however, I refuse to support any of the news sites that charge for their content.

Congratulations on being part of the reason that real journalism is dying and media is being taken over by bloggers with no idea how to actually report on news.

Thumbs up OP for posting a newspaper deal.

Who said I (or others) read bloggers for news - bloggers are for entertainment/information, not news. There are a large number of news sites out there who don't charge for their content. I choose to visit those sites instead of ones that do.

For example, most all of the TV news stations have free pages, I switched to them from the AZ Republic. CNN is free, etc, etc.

I also choose not to pay for television, but still watch with an antenna. Gasp!

Terrible newspaper. The only worthwhile thing it has to offer is Dan Bickley. I can get my Bickley fix by listening to him on the radio or following him on the Twitter.

Yeah, because CNN has television ad revenue behind it.

Do you not support artists who charge for their music online? Do you not support filmmakers who charge for a digital version of their movie?

You don't pay for a newspaper because it's printed on paper. You pay because journalists have salaries, cameras cost money, newsrooms cost money, and distribution - yes, even digital - costs money.

Newspapers can't survive without revenue, and since more and more companies aren't advertising in newsprint (and online ad revenue for most regional papers is negligible), charging for online access isn't a bad thing - it's a "we're a business and businesses need money to operate" thing. Newspapers don't have TV ad money, so they can't just offer everything for free and pay their staff and their bills.
