My son ran HS cross country for a big program in So. Cal. For daily practice they would run 8-10 miles. He ran in Brooks and raced in Brooks racing flats. He has since graduated but still runs. He currently runs in Hoka(which he absolutely loves, says it's like running on clouds). These can be found online for $50ish and up. I understand wanting to find the cheap pairs of shoes because they tear them apart, but in mine and my sons and his teams experience, you don't want to cheap out... Your sons body takes a major pounding when he runs, So you want to get him some that is built and cushioned for his style of running. I would suggest going to a running store and getting fitted. Try on some shoes. When he finds a pair he likes, take the name down and come back to slick deals and the internet and start searching. I have bought him the shoes he likes at 50% off just because they were last year's model... take my advice for what it's worth. Good luck to you and your son!

Anyone think these are any better than whatever junky sneakers kmart has on sale for $19.99, or even suitable for running at all? My son runs 5K's about every month, is on the HS cross country team, and goes for a 3-5 mile run daily, I got him asics he picked out and wanted to replace some of the many other less expensive running shoes he's blown out from over use, so he doesn't blow the expensive asics out in 2 weeks wearing them every time he runs.

try propet 5e. have wide feet, have to go NB 4E or propet 5e

theres a waterproof or hiking versions for propet 5e as well(propet Eiger low and others). very few choices for me, function over style unfortunately

Thank you for the. suggestion. I'm stuck wearing nb running shoes because they are the few wide widths that fit me properly.. And even then only certain ones.

Your suggestion for more insulated/hiking options will help me.

Merrill (hiking/waterproof) also has wide options, but I have to go one size up +wide to properly fit (with medium-thickness socks). didn't get merrill

propet 5e is better for me
