Stay far, faaaar away from this laptop (or any Toshiba laptop, really). I had this model and the touchpads eventually (like within a few days, week tops) stop working, or work intermittently, and have all manner of "ghost touches". Toshiba knows this, admits it, and also admits there's no fix or workaround. I know this from hours spent on the phone with product support. The hinges are also only good for about a month's worth of use before they stick and break. I went through 6 different laptops of this model, and every single one developed the exact same problems. And I only paid about $600, at this price it's a crime.

Are you sure that you have this model? I have checked all the reviews and only problem they have reported is the battery life because of the 4K display. I have used it for a short while, from a friend, purchased from BestBuy and did not encounter any issue.

IDK what that is up with that guy. This is my GO TO laptop for travel and around the house. Had it since around Jan of this year, use it nearly every day. Runs great.

Plus: Display is top notch, thin/light, good overall size
minus: low battery life, loud fan at times, fairly hot if gaming (hearthstone/league of legends), shallow keyboard takes some getting used to

I second that feedback. This laptop has one of the better display, covers 95% sRGB and 70% + Adobe RGB color spectrum. Also it is very bright and has very low color deviation.

I am using this laptop right now (typing on it) and it is absolutely fantastic. The specs blow everything else out of the water. While yes, the battery life is a bit short, I'm usually running on AC anyway. I can safely get 4 hours of work unplugged if I need to.

The screen is stunning, and the "yoga" hinge is actually very useful. I use it in stand mode all the time. The keyboard layout and key travel takes some getting used to, but nothing terrible. The backlighting is great for typing in the dark.

In regards to the touchpad issue... yes, it is true. After only a month or two of using my unit, the trackpad would randomly jump. A few weeks later, it started cutting out altogether. At first I thought it was a driver issue, but through some investigation I found it is a hardware (grounding) issue.

The problem is that Toshiba uses some cheap thin conductive tape to ground the touchpad to the chassis. It is insufficient, and therefore touches don't register properly. The solution is to ground the touchpad yourself. Personally, I used copper foil tape and a small wire, and it is working absolutely perfectly ever since. 100% fixed. Multi-touch, gestures, all functional.

If you are handy, it is easy to unscrew the small hex screws on the underside, remove the battery and ground it yourself - if the issue should arise. But that will obviously void the warranty.

However, there is nothing else like this laptop on the market. 4k screen, Core i7, 8GB RAM, USB-C, full HDMI port, 12.5 inch convertible, all under 3 lbs.

Hope that helps. Just want to share my experience.

Thanks for such a detailed posting. Since you have opened the Laptop, you have greater knowledge of inside. Can the Ram and SSD be upgraded?

The RAM cannot be upgraded. I think I saw the modules, and they were soldered on. The SSD however, is upgradeable. So is the WIFI chip. I'll add a few more pictures of the innards.

The 5 screws holding the battery in place are clearly marked. You just need to undo those tiny screws and unhook the connector on the side. The touchpad is underneath.

This trackpad issue is a often report issue on many of the mid-range Toshiba, Asus and Acer model laptop. It has been narrowed down to an electrical-grounding issue with the touchpad as an external mouse works just fine with the system. I've this laptop with the same issue and found more on how to fix it (with images of how to do the grounding) on this site... http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/...spond.html
