9500s are very decent especially at their price point maybe not the best looking of the bang for buck category but the sound is defnitely in line.

Only get the Philips if you're willing to get this: https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-...oam+earpad

That makes everything better. Many users complain of the very loose fit, that fixes it too.

NOTICE: These go on sale every couple months or so. Not very long at all. So if you're having second thoughts don't worry, they'll be on sale again soon for the same price.

Got these a few months ago for around the same price (~$55 iirc). Definitely far worth it. Great soundstage, bass doesn't shake your head but is still prominent. I listen to all sorts of things with these headphones. Rock, rap, electronic, and even gaming (love them for Counterstrike). Cannot recommend these enough for a budget pair of headphones. They give higher priced cans a run for their money. They are also VERY light. If you use any other headphones you'll notice right away that they fit a lot nicer with less weight. The ear padding is soft and breathable too.

The shp9500 pads are not intended to be removable FYI.

However, I do agree they are far from the softest or snuggest fitting headphones out of the box. I got mine refurbished, though, ymmv.

I know, but the mod makes the headphone so much better, it's worth losing the warranty for it.

Wonderful sound on the SHP9500's but I sent mine back because they fell off my head at the smallest tilt and personally I don't think I should have to mod headphones simply to keep them on my slightly-larger-than-average noggin. I ended up buying AKG K7XX's which I'm very happy with. FWIW one person at Headfi reported recently ordering the SHP's from Newegg and receiving a revised 's' model that had a tighter clamp on the head and increased bass. This has not been verified by anyone further but I'd like to hear if anyone here receives this model.

Those must've released very recently, when I did the mod (about three weeks) those didn't exist.
