Anybody have that screwdriver? I've had an el cheapo one that gets a lot of use, but the ratcheting mechanism effectively makes it a short screwdriver and that has caused me some problems in the past.

Are you sure you just aren't seeing the price before rebate? When you have a rewards card, it becomes an instant rebate.

Man, I remember when Ace and Scotty's were the only two options in town.

I remember when ace had tons of free after rebate and tools for $2 for labor and memorial days. I don't think I have been these sales for last 2 years.

I purchased it the day I posted this, I really like it and have used it. The bit is held well. The ratcheting mechanism is controlled by the dial in the middle of the screwdriver. I really like the grip and long front of this screwdriver. It is the only item I purchased for this sale.

I noticed at the store that the tape measure has a "Write-on label for repeated use with carpenter pencil" if that is of value for some.

That is why I put YMMV in the title. Most Ace Hardware stores are independently owned and operated, this sale will not be at all Ace stores.

How long would you say the shaft is? ie, about how far in could I access a recessed screw?

well the website does show the mail in savings but that wouldn't be worth it for $2. either way not a screaming deal i guess can be had for just $2 more.

Thanks! Got the screwdriver, tape measure, and utility knife just now at the Durham, NC store for $3.99/ea. Drops from $5.99 after you give your Ace Rewards card. No MIR necessary.

Shaft of the screwdriver is just shy of 3".

The Stanley deal is not being advertised in my local Ace Hardware advertisement. We have the Craftsman $9.99 deals instead.

In my area (PA), the $9.99 Craftsman deals are part of the Sept monthly deals. There's a separate ad for the labor day weekend deals that have the prices the OP mentioned.

Sometimes my local store does not show the weekend sale specials in their online ad, but I've called them and asked if they were participating and they said yes.
