If you have an old Obihai and it doesn't work, you can upgrade the firmware yourself. This is done because Obi uses token based Oauth based authentication instead of having your google password saved to Obi instead.

Of course you can. I've done it for 3 of my family members' Obi devices.

On the OBi web portal use Expert Configuration and go to:

System Management -> Auto Provisioning -> Auto Firmware Update
Change Method to "System Start"
For FirmwareURL, enter http://fw.obihai.com/OBi202-3-1-0-5285.fw

Submit and save your changes.
Upon restart firmware will be updated.
After firmware is updated, change Method back to previous setting.
You should now be able to configure your in-laws OBi remotely as desired.

I have an obihai OBi110 for regular home use and has been fine. Is it worth upgrading to 200? Can any expert chime in? Thanks in advance.

I'd appreciate this also. I have the Obi110 and quality sucks sometimes (latency, people on the other end having trouble hearing me). I wonder if this might improve my issues. And what's the difference between the 200 and the 202?

If my fiancée and I both want to use our Google Voice numbers (2 lines into one multi-line phone) would the 200 do the job or do we need the 202?

Does anyone use a multiple GV setup like this? If so I'd really appreciate any pros and cons you could mention, and phones you could recommend.

Thanks!

Yes, the OBI200 can accept two GV numbers. While the 202 accepts 4 lines. Even the old adpapters (obi100 and obi110) can accept two numbers.

Most people configure the 2nd line to E911 provider.

FYI, Obi started charging $10 year for firmware upgrades... you can always upgrade the firmware yourself

I have been using obi110 for more than 5 years. No call quality issues at all. You might want to check your internet speed and your router. If possible provide higher priority (Qos) to OBI adapter

As long as the device still functions just upgrade to the latest firmware. Google still supports the XMPP protocol that the OBi uses to connect to Google Voice.

I finally got around to hooking up my Obi200 that I got from a deal over a year ago and have been very happy with it. Went thru the process of porting my Vonage number over to Google voice and now enjoy pretty much free home phone. Since the wife is still not ready to go cell phones only this is the perfect compromise.

Ordered OBi200 - Thanks, OP.
Have been delaying this purchase and transaction for over a year now.
Glad that they fixed the firmware and switch to my Google Voice number should be very easy. Wife will be happy that finally we have a "land line" and not only mobile phone service in the house.
