I'm guessing this is a Labor Day weekend only sale.

I just purchased my second Solo with this deal. It's an excellent copter. Most Best Buys will have these items in stock although the Solo itself may be in the back. Check Best Buy's stock online.

You will need a GoPro 3/4. Full camera control with the GoPro 4.

Company is virtually out of business - units are generally unreliable and defective.
Company just let go of some of the last employees - headcount is down 95% - in other words, the end.

They do seem to have abundance of inventory and they have acknowledged that they are exiting consumer market.

However i have built many drones from scratch and I can't come near this price for what you get. Compared to the 599 bundle with backpack this seems better as you get a spare battery instead and save a hundred bucks.

Also for me the automation you can get with drone api .. I have done some neat stuff with this, ( see Alexa drone control [hackster.io] project) and I'm not aware of competitors having this sort of functionality. Although to be fair I haven't looked much.

Wish 3dr would release (sell individually) that Sony gimbal tho.

Also despite some blog reports that their Austin office effectively closed months ago, I can say (as I work in the same building) that there is still a lot of activity there.

the only thing true in that statement is that the company is letting engineers who DEVELOPED it go, and they are refocusing on the enterprise market.

I own many drones, including a Solo and I love it. Made a ton of great shots and videos with it and made many customers happy. Fantastic deal.

This is a great price, and if I knew for sure I would get a good unit out of the box, I would likely bite. I already have a GoPro hero 3, so I would be all set. What's really holding me back is the negative reviews. It appears that the 3DR customer support is simply non-existent. They force you to obtain tech support via email, and when they choose to respond, it's days later. No telephone support, and apparently they recently did away with chat support as well.

On Amazon, for example, this has 24% 1-star reviews. Some of them are real horror stories too! A combined 38% of reviews are 3-star or less.....that's getting up to the odds that almost guarantee that with my luck, I will get a defective unit.

Darn, I was pretty excited about this deal!!

The other thing I noticed is that BestBuy has several "bundles" for this drone, but the wordage on this particular item seems more like it is not a bundle....but the link under the price does seem to confirm that the 4 "free items" are included.

So, then, what's the difference in this $499 package versus the $599 package: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/3dr-s...1200050000

Have you had any of the issues that so many of the reviewers on Amazon seem to have had? Mainly, with the customer service department, once there is an issue with the drone itself?

I am on the fence....the price is right where I'd like to be, and it seems if you get a good vehicle with no issues, they are pretty well loved drones. I am just so nervous that I wont be lucky enough to get one of the "good ones"....lol

Dude, get ready to DD. When they finally close shop, you'll score some great stuff.

Solo is a decent drone if you can get around the GPS lock on problem (and few other issues). Our camera drone group meets twice a month to fly at a secluded area, and my friend's Solo always had trouble locking on to GPS. The area is too windy, and he was afraid to fly manual. He finally got rid of it and bought a Yuneec H. Sure, the H was about twice as much, but he was much happier (he was flying).

Way less than $499, with the extra accessories included?? Was this online, or in-store only?

At $499, I am still kind of nervous, but for "way cheaper", I am willing to roll the dice.

Please tell. bounce
