I disagree. The layout tool is good for certain things, but terrible at others. The kit, however, is fantastic.
Can't remember all of the specifics, but I remember the rule markings seemed very concise and accurate. It was good at measuring depth as the rule slides so you don't even need to read the measurement sometimes. Just slide the rule out till it hits the desired distance and transfer.
The main issue I had was using it add a square. It seemed to keep a true 90 degrees in the channel, but the the body was either too thick or too thin to allow accurate squareness. You couldn't get it to sit right sometimes. I think it'd be easier to demonstrate than explain.
Anyway, for free it's a decent deal. The Lowes near me are offering free screws with the purchase of any kregg kit, in store. Not sure how many they offer as I just saw the sign on my way out of the store today and it said to speak to a representative for details.

I looked really quick at the layout tool. What can it do that a combo square cant. I'd rather wait for the combo with the dedicated clamp for free.

Bought it for fathers day and built shelves and a workbench with them. i am a fan, especially at this price.

I have this jig and its great.
If you're looking to do pocket holes, then go for it.
Fixed my railing at my house...solid as a rock now with titbond III and pocket holes and screws.
U also need a clamp, drill, and kreg screws. Ymmv

there is no doubt that the pocket hole jig is nice. its the addon that doesn't seem to be any more than a combination square. the clamp was a better deal as it fits specifically in the jig itself.
