My hdx from a few years ago has 2gb ram, and I was hoping this new one would jump up from the 1gb their current models have. It did, but just to 1.5. Still has some nice features, like Blue Shade, but I really wish they'd get with it on the ram.

When this drops 20 or 30 bucks on sale like they've done from time to time with the HD 6, maybe on BF, that's a deal.

Keep in mind you can score 8 inch tabs with this resolution on SD, running Android instead of Fire OS, for sub-$100 all the time.

Example: https://slickdeals.net/f/8840863-acer-iconia-one-8-tablet-8-inch-hd-intel-atom-z3735g-1gb-ddr3l-16gb-storage-android-kitkat-b1-810-11zw-79-99?v=1&src=SiteSearch

Will wait until this has been out for a while to confirm the OS update doesn't break the jailbreaks or at least sideload.

I would be a bigger fan of the Fire line if you could prevent a toddler from being able to remove apps in kids mode. That was the biggest reason I went from an HDX to a regular Android tablet for my son. After he eventually cracked the screen on the Asus MemoPad 8, I ordered a Fire HD 8 from AWD 2 months ago to see if they changed this with the newer FireOS and it's still the same. I ended up returning it and got him a $40 Asus MemoPad 7 that was on clearance at Walmart.

Honestly, a pretty decent price. $90 is not much at all, some competitors with similar specs cost $20-50 more. I'm guessing this will be down to $70 or so for Black Friday.

Agree. Thought about the HD 10, but the PPI on that is even worse...

I got the HD10 on a deal from Sears. With SYW points it was like $60 OOP. For media consumption - strictly video, and kids gaming, the resolution is not a problem at all.

I wouldn't use any LCD/LED screen for long term reading of ebooks. That's what e-readers are for.

Had a friend actually comment on how clear and crisp the video looked when we were watching MLB At Bat games on the tablet. I'd buy the HD10 again, and I'd buy a HD8 too.

Interesting.

I have a Air 2 and the kids are still perfectly find with their Ipad 3. That thing still runs great for video consumption.

That's great. Glad that works for you. Not sure what that has to do with my comment about a similar device to the one in this thread but...ok.
