I agree about the rebate thing. Why don't stores offer instant cash off rebates? We consumers are left having to wait 8-10 weeks (in many cases) for a small check rebate. Just seems so not worth it anymore.

Can you guys explain what is meant by 'applications must be postmarked no more than 30 days from purchase'. I'm new to rebates and sorry for the stupid question.

It's a business model/business 'practice' that has been around forever.

The main reason retailers offer rebates is solely because it gives each party (buyer & seller) an opportunity to deny/not receive the rebate.

Retailers hope you, the buyer, simply forgets to send in the rebate or is too late in sending it in. Also, many shady companies will deny rebates for any little crappy mistake found on the mailed-in envelope, rebate form, etc. & will often lie about not even receiving the rebate or that the contents of the envelope weren't in the envelope, etc. It's really sad that they are so dishonest.

With a pending rebate, the company does not have much of an incentive to make good on their rebate (they already have your money & have been earning interest on it for several weeks) but things are slowly changing for the better in the 'rebate market'.

A lot of companies now offer an online (as opposed to a 'snail mail') rebate. But evidently, MANY folks still simply forget to submit those also (or by the time they remember, the deadline has already passed).
