I think these "new" brands to us are actually known brands in other parts of the world. I think TCL is actually the biggest selling brand in China. Most all tv's are built in chaina anyway, and most all come with a 1 year warranty. Just buy an extended warranty. They don't coast that much considering the "new" brands are a little cheaper than popular brands.

Of the 3 you mention I personally would avoid Sceptre and Element unless you're really looking for a bottom of the barrel price on a bottom of the barrel TV.

TCL is new in the Western markets - but they seem to have found a way to be more budget friendly than Vizio while still providing a minimum level of image quality and control settings. As far as discount brands go I would rate TCL above the rest.

Most of the brands are made by the same company. Look at Sanyo, Element, and Seiki I think> THey all have "Funai Corp" on the back as the manufacturer.

TCL is a Korean brand I think.

Of the cheap "off" brands, I think TCL and Quasar are the best choices.

Why do conservative politicians oppose conservation?
Have you ever stopped to think the long-term GOP immigration policy might be to make the United States of America a less desirable place to live than Mexico?

Sceptre was previously a computer monitor manufacturer. Their build quality for televisions left a bit to be desired, unfortunately.

I think Element is made by L-G. TCL is the Chinese company that bought out the RCA consumer product brand from the French company Thomson, which bought it from GE, which bought it from RCA, which was originally owned by GE.

AOC is a Korean brand, which also makes Envision.

Many of the cheap off brands also have poor online support eg things like software updates and manuals and poor compatibility with universal remotes.

I've owned a few Sceptre sets and they have been fine...good picture quality. Although the setup menus seem to be a bit goofy and the built-in speakers they use are horrible.

I've been happy with my 'Toshiba' (who knows who makes it as it is stamped Best Buy on the back label) TV from last year's Black Friday deal.

Buy from WM with a guarantee, so you get your money back if anything happens.
