In what? Price? The 900i and DT990s are not really the same, one is open headphone and the other is a closed, one is touted as being studio and as such very balanced and the other people review as being sort of boomy (some people like this, so it is not always a bad this if that is your taste). The 900i will also do better with most music players as I believe they are normal 40ohms, while the DT990 are 250ohm in this deal, which means if you like listening to music pretty loud, you will always need the amp with you, most players and phone will drive them, but don't expect them to get very loud. Being open, the DT990 if you are using in an office work place are not good choices, as they will have lots of sound leakage (open design) and people might not like you to much after that. This also works in reverse, in that if you are in a noisy room, you will get far more background noise making it in than with the 900i or DT770s.

There are LOTS of factors that come into play when dealing with speakers or headphones, everyone has different taste. Both from my understanding (I have never owned either, I have the DT770s) are very good and comparable in build quality, but sound very different. Should note however, the DT's are often claimed to be far more comfortable, The DT770s are almost the same fit wise as the 990s and I can tell you that they fit me great, other than being a little warm.

I currently own the ATH-M50 headset and was thinking about upgrading to these. Anyone know how the sound quality compares to one another? Or the level of comfort?

I have M70's myself and have the same curiosity.
