Seems like an ok deal, but the video only goes to 60Hz, so for me, that's a let down.

The X850D has a 120hz panel, deal is only mediocre though.

Totally depends on your usage and needs. Most reviews say Samsung is better... However, if you have off axis viewing (not in front of tv) the Sony is a better choice. Samsung 8000 loses color accuracy at almost any angle. Plus the X1 upscaling chip Sony uses is great at scaling other sources to near 4K.

Sony has Android TV and you can install apps directly from the Google store, including KODY. However, it uses IPS panel, and contrast is obviously worse - in the dark screen is grayish. The picture doesn't pop up. Samsung KS8000 has Samsung made PV panel, almost as dark as OLEDs and VERY bright luminescence. Samsung uses modified Tizen for the TV and apps come from Samsung , i.e. next year they will probably not update anything. Samsung also has Bluetooth to phones audio , and I think it has Smarthings hub integrated.
My wife preferred KS8000 and I thought she is not capable of sensing the difference, but she proved me wrong...

Not all 8000 series have Sam panels. Look up Samsung Panel Lottery.

The 8000 DOES have better blacks and contrast for night time viewing. The Sony has better off axis viewing, better upscaling and better handling of fast motion.

ANY tv that's not an Oled or Plasma is a trade off, it's about deciding what is most important for you...

I think their 55" are Samsung panels, for the 60 and 65 they use AUO panels, but probably 10-15% of all, and those are still very high quality panels, arguably better than Samsung's. For the lesser TV models panels are usually not Samsung's - everything depends on retail run-rates, if they are short, they will contract out the house.

Sorry, you're wrong. Samsung sells SO many TV's that they quite routinely have to out source for panels. They also get panels from Sharp and Innolux too. It also seems that ONLY the 55 inch JS8500 gets a Samsung panel everytime Here's info.. https://www.cnet.com/forums/discu...ry-619357/

I ultimately went with the 65 inch 850D based on Rtings... "The Sony X850D offers good picture quality as long as it is watched in a room with some ambient light. Because of how well it handles motion, it will be a good pick for watching sports and playing video games. Its wide viewing angle will also ensure good picture quality for everyone in the living room."

I personally like the SONY, my wife likes the Samsung - we haven't agreed yet, and haven't bought the TV yet Smilie. I prefer the motion handling of SONY processors and the convenience of having Android OS, but the KS tv is indeed having much more contrast. SONY's equivalent would be the X930D, which is wonderful TV and MUCH more expensive than KS8000.
Last years X850C had PV panel and when put next to each other it becomes visible the better contrast of the C model. However Sony cheapen out on the CPU, and X850C had problems with OS stability and apps. So, I passed.
I personally think that SONY has better product reliability, and like its as a brand;... but then Costco sells Samsung as well, and the KS8000 would have 4-year warranty when purchased there.

Tough call again this year when choosing a TV Smilie There is no really a "deal" from any brand.

Yeah, all the major players (Samsung, LG and Sony) moved to a UPP (Unilateral/ Universal Pricing Policy). This ties retailers hands as price is set by Manufacturer..

I too had to really look at what was best for my situation. To get something like my Panasonic Plasma, I would've had to go OLED...

Decided that since my new living room in the house we bought has several seating areas at various angles, that an IPS panel was better for me, even if black levels suffered..

We were actually going to buy a 65 inch 8000 series, but it was completely sold out. GoOD thing, as I didn't realize the differences between IPS and VA at the time...

Have Sony coming on Wed...
