Donnay racquets are good, but as a company they have had a poor track record recently. I forget how many reorganizations they have been through. Long term players have been frustrated at QC (those buying more than two are getting different static weights/balances), and not being able to get extra/replacement grommet sets for new racquets.

If you are an enthusiast player, I would stay away. But for the rec player that was just going to buy one racquet at a box store, this would be a decent upgrade. I would still just get something on sale/used at Tennis Warehouse though. They have many great sticks under $80.

I wouldn't recommend a Donnay racquet when there are so many other options out there in this same price range. Like jrxl99 stated, check the sale section of a site like Tennis Warehouse. Stick with Head, Wilson, Babolat, or even Prince (which are sometimes available at a deep discount).

I tend to disagree with the above, as I am an avid tennis enthusiast and have bought many Donnay rackets in the past. Their solid core technology has done wonders for my arm and the performance has superseded any other racket I owned. I used to play with a Pure Drive until I switched.

I also frequent Tennis Warehouse forums, and there's a lot of information about the company on there. From what I read, it was bought buy the urlhasbeenblocked brothers a while back, and is still owned by them as I actually spoke with one of them recently (Jerry) when I called customer service.

From what I gather on the forums and following their social media, they went through an issue with the license for the Donnay name and have changed their name to Donnay-Xenecore. So I think with legal battles against the "big corporation" had caused them to lay off employees and brought them down to a skeleton crew (why I think I got the owner on the phone when I called CS). .

As far as the weights and balances, they will customize a racquet for you to spec. So if you just ordered a base racket it may be off spec but I never had an issue because I modify my rackets with their butt caps anyway.

I love their rackets and think its a good racket for a new guy. Stay away from the Pro ones and Formulas as they are player rackets.

I used to play with a Pure Drive. Much better performance and so much more comfortable. From an ex-Pure Drive owner to a current Pure Drive owner, I would say switch, switch right away! LOL. When I first switched I used their demo program before I bought my first racket from them, now every racket I own is a Donnay.

I have the same question. I am just about to start (for the first time) playing tennis. Would love some good tips on the right gear.
