Thread Details

I've given my opinion in many places about the beer's i've tasted. Might as well have a thread about it. Feel free to add.

Currently having a Shiner Blonde.

A bit too light for my tastes, but a good Spring/Summer lager. Light, crisp, not too hoppy. Kind of like a hefeweisen without all the yeast. I tasted a little lemon at the first taste. Prett good. On a scale of 1 to 10, i'd give it a 7.

Are you talking about the Beer Advocate guys? I have never actually met them before, but I know they are the organizers of the event and they sell all sorts of BA swag at a booth their.

Yes, Lawson's is definitely on my list, I have not had a chance to sample any of their stuff yet.
Awesome - between the Maple Nipple and Double Sunshine I could stay at their booth at tastings all night.

I was originally going to, but one of the site owners is such an ass that I'm not interested in supporting him. I did check out the beer list and there's some good stuff there this year, but I've had just about all of the stuff there that I'm interested in.

Hit up the Lawson's booth early. Good stuff.
The Allstrom brothers completely suck. After all the crap they pulled with EBF, I doubt I will be going to any future beer advocate sponsored events.

I wanted to hit up Savor this year since it's in NY, but of course they hold it when I'm out of town. I am in or around NYC 49-50 weeks a year, so of course they pick a weekend I am away. The good news is I will be in Portland Oregon enjoying some amazing beers.

This is a beer-related story, so I'll post it here:

I have my tickets already this year so I am definitely still going to ACBF. I did not know the Allstrom brothers were such dicks though, but I have read some eye opening stuff about them in the last few days. It is a shame because it is a really good event that I look forward to, but I do not think I want to support them anymore in the future now that I have learned a little more about how they operate.

Portland should be a good time though, it is a great beer city. I checked out the OBF festival there back in 2011 and I would love to do that again. A totally different vibe than the ACBF. Outside on the water front, live music, better food, children allowed, and way way less rent a cop security. nod

It is a shame about the Alstrom brothers, but they don't care. I have actually gone back to my roots of using rate beer over beer advocate.

This will be my 3rd trip to PDX, looking forward to it as usual. I am actually going to Seattle for a graduation, just decided to add a few days to the trip and head to Oregon.

I'll be going to FL later this month, Fort Myers and Sanibel Island. Are there any local beers I should check out? TIA.

I've been doing the same quite a bit (using Ratebeer).

I did read that Kate the Great 2012 is on tap at Portsmouth right now - I'm really hoping to try some.

You absolutely should pick up/try anything and everything you can get from Cigar City Brewery - their Jai Alai is out of this world good. It's way out of season, but if you see any dusty bottles of Marshal Zhukov stout on the shelf then buy it all.

Got my hand on a bomber of Doom last night. At first I didnt like it, but its one of those beers where it really works on you. Seemed like the more I drank the more I liked it(no I wasnt drunk)

+1 Jai Alai is delicious, had some at DLD. Their barrel aged shit is okay...SUPER strong like 15%

I finally got to try Kate the Great (2012 - last batch ever in all likelihood) today at Portsmouth Brewery. They pulled out two kegs - no lottery, no camping out - I just walked up to the bar and ordered one. It was everything people said.

My friend brought the Sam Adams summer variety pack over to my house and it had a few new brews in it. One of them was called Little White Rye. I have to say that it is one of the worst beers I have tasted in quite a while. It is a witbier style I guess but with tons of sage. Says it is supposed to have lemon peel and coriander too, but it is totally overpowered by the sage. It just doesn't work. vomit

I wouldn't say it's horrible, but it's very average- Ratebeer gives it a 55 and most comments seem to reflect that
