Thread Details

I've given my opinion in many places about the beer's i've tasted. Might as well have a thread about it. Feel free to add.

Currently having a Shiner Blonde.

A bit too light for my tastes, but a good Spring/Summer lager. Light, crisp, not too hoppy. Kind of like a hefeweisen without all the yeast. I tasted a little lemon at the first taste. Prett good. On a scale of 1 to 10, i'd give it a 7.

Special Releases:
This section is a trial run and can and may be deleted if we get little to no action in this section. If you read info about a special release, please post: Brewery, Name of beer(and style if you know it), LOCATION OF THE BREWERY, and the release day of the beer.

Once a beer is established in this list, you can make a bullet underneath it if you see it at your local liquor store(maybe city and state). If you do so, please put your username behind this posting in ( ) so if others possibly in your area want more info at to what store you saw it at, they can PM you. If you want to keep anonymous, by all means don't add your username.

Lastly, if you see old info, please update it. If this list gets cluttered and never gets updated this section will be deleted.

Stone Brewing Company - Double Bastard Ale (american strong ale), San Diego(Escondido), November 5th release date.
Avery/Russian River - Collaboration, not Litigation Ale (Belgian Strong Dark), Colorado, unsure of release date. Beermenus [beermenus.com] shows it at Burp Castle in East Village, NYC.

I had a can of it at a concert a few weeks back. Tasted like bud mixed with lemon pledge to me.

Seadog isn't bad. If you can get it though, my favorite blueberry beer is Sweetwater Blue. I just wish I could find it in the Northeast, shipping is way too expensive.

I don't think I've seen that in TX, but I haven't gone to any beer specialty shops.

This weekend I hit up Blue Lobster just off 95 in MA - the brewer there worked at Hill Farmstead and it shows, as he makes some really amazing beers. I picked up a growler of their wheat IPA (Stalkholm Syndrome) - really top notch. If anyone in MA wants to try HF quality beers without the major hike check out this joint.

I checked the map - it looks like they sell in TX, if you decide to pursue.

Made in back from New Orleans alive. Hit up some cool beer bars while I was town (Bulldog, Avenue Pub, and D.B.A). Also took a brewery tour at NOLA, it was a good time but honestly more of a party than a standard brewery tours. For $5 you got a pint glass and then it was basically unlimited beers for an hour and a half. Not bad and you got to keep the glass at the end. I tried their blonde, brown, saison, wheat, IPA and DIPA.

DBA is a pretty cool place. They have one in NYC that I have spent far too many drunken nights at,

It does not take much to send beer... last time i sent I used a "singles" case box and only put a single wrap of bubble wrap around each bottle.though I did put a layer of wrap on top and on bottom of every bottle.works wonderful.as long as the bottles cannot really go, there will not be breakage.

Not sure why you posted this random post about shipping beer. I do a lot of beer trades and it is actually is a lot more involved to send beer. Bubble wrap is required, but also put each beer in a ziploc bag in case it breaks to contain at least some, if not all, of the liquid. Also the box used for a case of bombers or 750s is usually not sturdy enough for shipping. I certainly wouldn't trust your shipping for anything rae or valuable. I just tend to spend the extra few dollars on styrofoam wine shippers for the expensive stuff. Usually shipping my beers first and telling the trader to re-use the box and send his stuff back in it, never had a problem.

Don't forget that you cant ship liquids via usps and if the box has any alcohol logos on it they will make you cover/remove them no matter what the contents. UPS and FedEx won't allow you to ship beer, but will allow wine and alcohol, so you need to lie about it. I am friendly with the guys at my local UPS store, so they take care of me even if it is beer.

^ That makes no sense that you can't ship beer but you can ship liquor and wine. But then again, it doesn't surprise me on how the gov.'t works (or doesn't work). Mad

Yeah, it's weird. You can ship wine, alcohol, even champagne, but no beer. I blame the ass backwards liquor laws, which, makes things harder. If I order from liquor stores I can have stuff shipped to friends in NY and pick it up, but can't have it directly shipped to NJ. There are a lot of ridiculous rules.

Beowulf have you ever tried any Saint Arnold's Brewery beers? I had some recently while on vacation and it was good stuff. Have never seen it locally in MA though. They are out of Houston TX.

Same here. No liquor can be shipped into MA, the state law says it is illegal. Don't want little kids getting booze shipped to their house I guess. Frown Such a stupid law.

I know there are many cities and states that have "dumb laws" and lack of beer shipping is one of them, esp. if they allow higher alcohol content items to be shipped, like wine and liquor. Mad

Yes, I have tried St. Arnold's beer at some bars if they have them and I enjoy those beers. I didn't know they were from Houston. Within TX brewed beers, by far the most popular one is Shiner. They're basically the PA's Yeungling of TX; and like with YL, I enjoy many Shiner beers.

It really is. It even gets stupid at the city level - I was at Jack's Abby today and you could have up to 6 samples. Then I went into Boston (Trillium) and they can't do samples - they'd have to convert it to a full bar with food to pour any beer. Stupid.
