I picked one of these up a couple days ago for that price. It's a good set, has pretty much everything for wrenches and sockets.

So stoked! I've been watching for that 432-piece set to show up in a store nearby for quite some time. None of them in a 250-mile radius... Just went in to Lowe's, talked to customer service, and they put in a special order for me.

As someone who has used many brands of "homeowner" grade tools like these, I think Kobalt tools are generally very good quality, perfect for a DIY mechanic. I would also recommend Klutch (Northern) except for their wrenches, they are flimsy (the small heads can often be useful though, just they are more likely to spread under high pressure). Husky (Home Depot) box wrenches seem to be very good, though I have heard bad things about any of their ratcheting stuff. Craftsman are hit and miss on quality and IMO you can do better. Their box wrenches are good but the cases suck. Sunex impact sockets are excellent, probably my favorite because they have pretty complete kits. Harbor Freight is very much a mixed bag and typically has the issue of incomplete sets.

As for "professional" level tools, you can spend $$$$$$ on German or Japanese tools and get top notch quality. MAC, Snap-On, Matco etc are also excellent (and expensive though a bit less but also easier to get replacements for) though many people HATE Snap-On ratchets.

My final note to anyone who is buying these to work on a car, WD-40 will not help you break rusted bolts loose. You need 50/50 ATF acetone mix or Kroil, anything else is really just a waste of money That includes PB Blaster, which smells like hell. Kroil is expensive but smells great.
