SYWR deals not allowed on SD? When did this happen?

Deal-Bouncer 2,452 911 September 24, 2016 at 05:45 PM
I posted a deal they had for $10 back in points when spending $25 via shoyourway.com or shopyourwayeverywhere. I've seen similar deals posted numerous times on SD. However, I got an email with a warning that said "The Shop Your Way shopping portal is considered a competitor site since you have to go through their site to get the deal, so i'ts not allowed."
My post was removed. When did this happen? SYWR deals are one of the more frequent and traffic generating deals on this forum. If SD bans deals from them, I think it's actually working against SD.

Hi animaletamer Smilie The shopyourwayeverywhere and the shopyourway shopping portal are considered competitor sites like Retailmenot is, since in order to get the deal you have to shop through their site, not ours, and use their links etc Wink

SYWR from sears.com or kmart.com or shopyourway.com (the regular part of that site) are just regular stores, not shopping portals such as the everywhere part of swyr is, which is why those are ok. It's just the shopping portal that links to other sites like Raise.com to get the deal as your deal did that is considered the competitor part and is not allowed. Smilie

Also, sorry that was meant to be just a notice/note to let you know why your thread was removed, not a warning, so the mod will be deactivating that.

In a sick, twisted way, I see at least some of the reasoning behind this decision...but it still makes no sense. Shopping through SYW awards points that can only be spent at Sears or Kmart (or at SYW on S/K items)...how on earth is something like the deal animaletamer posted considered competition for SD? SYW isn't cashback, regardless of the merchant involved in earning points.

The subtext I see in your statement is "SYW doesn't pay us enough (or maybe any?) commission. We grudgingly allow Sears/Kmart deals because we'll never be able to eradicate them, but no way will we allow any other SYW activity", and that's disheartening.

SYW is SYW is SYW. Allowing some deals but not others makes no sense.

Their shopping portal is same/similar to Retailmenot or Discover Deals where you have to shop through their site to that merchant. Hence competitor.

The regular sears or kmart sites are not. They're just any other store like Target etc. The shopping portal is not Smilie Linking to what are competitor sites isn't allowed. The regular Sears.com, Kmart.com, Craftsman.com, shopyourway.com (that is not the portal) are just normal stores, not portals such as what he'd posted. The shopping portal portion is the competitor portion.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I agree with you. It makes no sense, especially when previous similar deals were posted without any issues like:

Compared to those, my deal was only $10 back in points. If SD considered my post a competitor deal, how on earth were those posts allowed when mine was removed on the day I posted it?

But, whatever. They can/will do whatever they want. I just wish I didn't waste my time sharing the deal with others just to have it removed like that.

Ha, I was just working on finding the scads of previous posts that had been allowed...thanks for posting a few. It's a pita on my phone, so I'll pass on adding more for now.

Widget, syw posts have been allowed in the past. Many have been very popular posts. Why the sudden shift?
