Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I just bought a Denon x4200w for $800 shipped off Amazon and this seems pretty equivalent but I don't think I'll be running out to return my Denon.

I would note that this is the time of year when BB has historicall marked down year-end stock of high-end receivers often 70-80%.... I have seen plenty of ~1500 dollar models go in the 400 dollar price range. I bought my SC-63 pioneer from BB a few years back for ~400ish.

People will almost always pass them up to buy lesser models for the same price. I think a lot of people assume since the markdowns are so steep that the equipment is "junk."

Not to knock this deal at all or to direct people to hedge bets on it happening this year, but it does seem like a fairly consistent thing. Last year there were still a few to choose from at the local "magnolia" best buy that were extremely marked down, and it was almost christmas. (they had been sitting there for months)

Are they typically new or open box / demo units?

Seems like an awesome deal. I was in the market to upgrade from my non-4K receiver to a 4K one to be ready for my future 4K TV. Now I have a day to decide whether this is right for me before I pick it up.

Is the magnolia super discount something you checked on in person? Or were you able to monitor online? this does seem like a good deal that can be replicated, love my aventage (840)

How are you enjoying your x4200w? Grabbed it also but vocals are so low in movies and doesn't sound as nice as my old onkyo

Try increasing the volume on your center channel speaker from the receiver setup?

Mine was NIB as were most of the ones I've seen, although they do sell the demo units.

This has been going on for at least 4-5 years. I've never monitored online, but it seems like best buy has been doing that more lately... I just go into the magnolia store and the people working there already know about the deals usually... You just gotta find the person that isn't trying to hoard it for themselves or friends and just likes people getting cool stuff. They're often pretty excited about someone being able to get a good deal as long as you come off as respectful.

True...the Asian products that are on a 12 month life cycle get marked down significantly there each year
They typically have some new bell and whistle every 12 months..if its not important to you to have that and you prefer a higher end receiver over a feature set...then its great clearance
The Pioneer Elite units typically have the steepest markdowns..last year I bought an SC87 for $550( 2000 MSRP)..open box with all accesories
I have bought many units there over the last decade

in store only...in fact they will typically delete the discontinued models from their website totally these days

Both...but the sealed box units are typically hard to come by
Many times they have the highest end of their unit as open box. They come with full warranty from the day you buy it and they are eligible for the Best Buy extended protection plans

Apparently I'm not the only one who's scored on these.... (figured as much)

Do you know the dates they start putting these out to pasture? I have an SC63 ... pretty much the last model they made that didn't have two HDMI outputs.

I'm getting a little ..... ... i'm feeling the desire to upgrade. Maybe not the TV yet, but a new receiver wouldn't be bad. I love the D3 amps, low power consumption. Thing puts off like no heat and I have great HT speakers .... not going to upgrade TV unless i can snag an HDR cheap, think that'll have to wait until next year.

I actually haven't hooked it up yet. I'm using it for a new HT build, not just replacing an old receiver. Speakers and sub haven't come in yet but will soon. I just wanted to snatch up an x4200w at closeout price before they're gone. I doubt it will drop any lower than $799.

Considering that this model just came out in June, very unlikely to see 70-80% discounting for NIB units by end of year. A great deal for sure, in for one.

Don't all these mid-high end 2015 receivers all have HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0? For the longest time, it was impossible to find ones with both.
