Hey guys,

I didn't see this posted, so I thought I'd share.

Great router, bought it in 2012 and still runs perfectly for me. I have Andy Padavan's custom firmware running on it: https://bitbucket.org/padavan/rt-n56u/downloads

RT-N56U_3.4.3.9-099_dlna.trx is the current version if someone wanted to know which file was the right one. Excellent performance, never needs rebooting or overheats. Sure, it's only N600 Dual Band and not the newest AC, but at $19 bucks you seriously cannot go wrong with this one in my opinion.

I have the 65U version of this

you can put padavan firmware on it and it is pretty decent

just remember it has internal antennas so the wifi range is very limited

I have a Belkin N750 router with the same internals as this Asus, and I agree the Padavan firmware is very good. But like above poster, would've preferred external antennas for better range.

Those routers have something "different" inside: a dedicated chip for NAT operations. This means they can support a lot of connections and traffic, with the right firmware, obviously.
I wonder how special this is now, or whether all newer routers have it too.

same internals? can you provide link? Model Number?

So belkin is just as reliable as the asus n56u? same bandwidth, everything?

Got this on a previous deal about 6 months ago for my townhouse. Haven't had any issues with it so far. Certainly worth $19 IMO.

I got this one on a similar sale around 6 months ago and then liked it so much that I got another one as a backup (still in the box).
It is stable as a rock - I logged into its web-interface yesterday and the uptime was more than 30 days since the last reset - no hickups, no issues, nothing. Padavan firmware is great

Can't really say anything about the range because I have a pretty small house and the router is literally in the middle of it, so I don't have issues at all with wi-fi reception anywhere in the house or in my backyard. For $20 this is a total steal and I'm seriously thinking of getting the third one just to have it.

Now, what's a cheap modem to pair it with so I can ditch the rental one provided by TWC

Have the N66u and love it, working great for 5 years now. This will make a perfect access point for my newly finished basement!

If I use this router as an access point, can I still plug in a USB printer to this access point and send files to the printer? Padavan firmware or ASUS standard.
