If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Not a great deal anyway considering it's a refurb

Slightly Slower than 1060, and slightly cheaper.....

But this is refurb

People here for some reason just don't like refurbished things. I have no idea why. It's actually really dumb. They get offended by a deal whenever it says "refurb" as if it could never be a good deal.

I can definitely tell that a used condition is not as good as refurbished one.

I am debating whether I should get an open box gtx 970 from MC for ~$150 AR

or get a new 1060 3GB for $165 AR from NE

Lots of reasons to take issue with refurbs. First is that refurb means lots of different things. As far as you know, it was reflowed in someone's basement and will fail in minutes of owning the thing. This shady practice is usually labeled as "Seller Refurbished" on eBay. This particular card appears to be refurbished by the manufacturer, but it doesn't actually promise that anywhere. It could just be a returned item being resold, no idea.

I also note that there is only a 90 day warranty on the item. If it is supposed to work as well as new why is the coverage a full 9 months shorter than one that is new? Several cards by the same manufacturer are getting 3 year coverage yet this overpriced mystery refurb gets 3 months?

For me to buy a refurb it needs to cost at max 75% as much as the new one otherwise there is too much risk involved for the savings.

A lot of the time at Microcenter, things marked as "refurb" online just have a small dent in the corner of the box and are in fact brand new.

In these cases, they put a giant red sticker/tape around the box that says "full manufacturer's warranty still applies".

So you just save $200 or whatever because there is a small dent in the box.

I got an EVGA GTX 780 OC edition marked as such for $180+tax + $15 retailxxnot coupon applied (was brand new with small dent and tape) like a year ago -- was marked as a refurb online and I reserved it.

You can also go into the store and find things that aren't even online -- I got a ducky shine 3 cherry mx brown for $84.99 (on clearance + $5 coupon) instead of the ducky shine light w/e (the newer lower end model) that I was going for for $105.99
