For the amount of layoffs and sending American jobs to India this company does, they could at least give us a few more benefits.

Ever try to call for an issue? It's routed directly to India.

American Express needs to rebrand to Foreign Express

Discover uses "U.S. based Banking Specialists"

I know who I use the most....and its not Foreign Express

Might want to update the title and/or your original post to reflect the 40k+25k in 2nd year, most likely AFTER paying annual fee.

Regardless, $195 for 65k MR points along with 2x annual $100 airline credit is a good deal.

I actually just received this card and intend to cancel it before the first year to avoid the $195.00 fee.
Two questions...
Will AMEX waive the fee if I ask nicely?
If they don't when should I cancel? 5-6 months?

Technically you will get 3x $100 credits... one in 2016, one in 2017, and one in 2018, for the one AF.

So you net $105 in credit over the AF, plus 65k points.

In comparison the previous best deal on this card was $200 in credit (2 travel credits, no AF and you could cancel after 1 year) plus 50k points.

I need to cancel my platinum card from last years deal. Amex said the points would expire 30 days after I canceled. Can I apply for this to keep the points active with this card? Thanks.

Yup...as long as you have any MR-earning card open you're good- all points are shared between the cards.

Note the Amex Everday and Blue for Business are both MR cards with no annual fee if you need something long term to keep em active... they're not great for earning points beyond sign up bonus compared to other options, but honestly that's true of most Amex cards

You can try calling and mention that you want to cancel due to the high annual fee. They may give you an offer or two for you to select from. Or from my past experience with this card, no offer at all except to upgrade it to the platinum card. I recommend cancelling right before the annual fee hits or within 30 days after you see the fee has posted so you can at least get it credited back if they don't waive the fee. Make sure you have another AMEX card that earns MR points before cancelling this card as you will forfeit those points if you don't have another MR points earning card.
