Saw this earlier. Dont know how to post using app though.

Can a single bulb light up a living room? Planning on getting 2, the other one is for my room.

If it is small. This is rated at 1055 Lumens which is about equivalent to a 75W incandescent (1100 Lumens). Most humans expect differing levels of luminosity for a given room. Kitchens are typically 30-50 Lumens per square foot, or bedrooms/living room 10-20 Lumens. If your on the 'low' end of that curve then you could in theory get away with a single bulb in a 10x10 foot room. But 10 Lumens per square foot is pretty cave-like.

it depends on your config. Is your primary/overhead light fixture in your living room single bulb? If so, you'll lilely be fine. Mine is double bulb, and while using just one of the LifX whites is technically "enough," I prefer having the second lifx up and running together. The two whites light it up even better than the LED bulbs I previously had in there. Plus the ability to change the color profile to all temperatures of white is a huge benefit. Blue white light in the morning and red white light at night.

With this deal, I snagged my first full color LifX bulbs. I've loved the white bulbs, but the full gamut of every other color will be a huge blessing. I'm contemplating loading one color and one white in my living room fixture. We'll see how well I can blend them with the app, and the IFTTT configs I have running.

Much thanks for pointing this out OP. I suspect this pricing is due to the upcoming release of the full spectrum/infrared bulb they're releasing shortly (currently in preorder on the LifX site). I believe that one is clocking in at around $80. Pretty steep, but having IR light options opens up other doors for it's use. I'll probably have to force myself to hold out on getting one just to play with.

That makes me wonder if UV is possible or on the roadmap for LifX. Just think of what you could do with that. The blacklight posters from my youth would be immediately pulled out of the archives is no time. UV would be the default equivalent of OFF.

Anyone using these with HomeAssist or other home automation?

My use case involves using this in an outdoor light fixture with a motion sensor. Program the light through home automation to turn on/off at dusk/midnight and on/off with motion sense from midnight to dawn?

Possible to do with this bulb? Other suggestions?

This can be done. I don't know specifically how to but if you download the IFTTT app there should be a way for you to set this up. It's called recipes or something.

I have one of the lifx color 1000 bulbs and Im not really impressed. After the newness wears off its just a very expensive light bulb that isnt as convienient as a regular light bulb. What I really miss is being able to go in the room and flip the switch to turn the light on. I know I can flip the switch off and back on and it will come on but the only way to turn it off without your phone is to turn the switch off but then next time you want to turn it on with your phone you cant because the switch is off. It would be nice if they would add a feature that when the light is on you could flip the switch off and back on quickly to turn the light off, that way it would still have power to it and be able to be turned on by your phone the next time. Oh and also another annoyance is, often the bulb disconects from the wifi and I cant get it to turn on with the app and I have to wait up to a minute for it to recconect just to be able to turn it on. I placed a lamp with a regular old led bulb in it next to the door so when I go in and want instant light I can just turn on the lamp. I find that Im rarely using the lifx bulb anymore. Im about ready to go back to a plain old light bulb.
