Planar TLC NAND...
These are not worth more than a $100 for this capacity.

Is that the difference between 750 and 850? I was just going to ask tlc vs mlc.

I tend to agree. However the lowest it has been so far is 135$ according to http://pcpartpicker.com/ and its competitor SanDisk X400 at 125$. It is not that bad of a drive too if you use it for gaming with no more than 2-3 games installed at a time, keeping total usage under 50%. It has TBW of 100TB. Assume each game writes about 100Gb (installation plus saving during gaming, DLCs and stuff). Then it should be good for.. 100000/100 = 1000 for about 1000 games. Given there is no more than 10 good games coming out each year and you keep it under 50% of its capacity it should be good for 100 years... Well, it is also rated at 1,500,000 hours but lets face it nobody plays each game more than 100 hours on average, so time does not play any role really.

I think I just convinced myself to get one lol

I beat the crap out of my SSDs, using them for development servers. Lots of R/W activity, just what they're good for. So for a few dollars more, the 840/850s are well worth the extra peace of mind. (The 850 Pro is on sale w/ promo code at Fry's for $178 this week and I though I saw the 840s recently for $135 or so)

EDIT: Just checked the 840s, guess that was a bit longer ago, when they cleared them out.

Yep, if you do development or want to keep it at almost 100% load or use it as OS drive then EVO 850 is the lowest you should go. Should work well as dedicated Steam/Origin/Battle.net/Uplay drive

Hope I caught you before pulling the trigger. The newer Crucial MX300 series seems to be better. I grabbed the 275GB with a 15 off on newegg via ebay. same warranty 3d nand and 220TB before failure on the 525GB model. CT525MX300SSD1 , http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...20-156-151 $120 right now but I think that's the street price despite the msrp.

If you prefer samsung this could be good. Spec for spec I jumped on the crucial to dip my toe into 3d and not break the bank as well as use the ebay coupon. If you go samsung the 8xx series is the one imo.

edit found the sd link to the 525GB crucial.

Yes. Crucial looks good. Wish you wrote earlier. Got the Samsung already. Anyways, both will be replaced well before their time is up in 4-5 years. PCI based SSDs are the future and should be cheap by then.

I would try to message and cancel. They are doing snail speed shipping on ebay.

Already got tracking number. Anyways, it would be trading performance for long term reliability. According to this http://www.storagereview.com/crucial_mx300_ssd_review EVO 750 is better for gaming (lots of reads with little writes), so it is ok.
