Who has traveled to Romania, I would like to know whether the country is safe and if not boring, there are many places that are worth visiting ?

Lived there for a few months. Aside from the frequent packs of wild dogs wandering the city, I felt perfectly safe in Bucharest. (This was a few years ago and I've heard they've really cut down on that wild dog population now.) After a few days there, I felt more comfortable and safe than most any U.S. city. And I feel relatively safe in most American cities I visit.) Bucharest is a city you'll need time in if you're going to appreciate it. First impressions probably aren't going to be too great (mine definitely weren't), but if you have the time to explore and take the vibe in, you'll probably come to really like it. It's not a tourist-pampered and polished Paris, but a more gritty and "real" city that will take some effort to find the beauty behind the grit. Maybe that's why I grew to love it so much. You appreciate things more when you have to work for it. Their parks are must visits. Especially Herastrau (north Bucharest) and Cismigiu (city center). I go back whenever I have the time. As for the countryside, I spent a lot of time exploring other parts of the country via train and hiking and hitching and never had any safety problems. But if you do this, make sure you bring your camera! Romania has some of the most beautiful landscapes, villages, historic/cultural places/buildings...etc., in Europe. And the big bonus: all without the usual hordes of tourists you'll find nearly anywhere in western or central Europe!
(The image below is a passing scene of a village and castle remains in Transylvania as seen from my window on the train.)
