I'm admittedly new to the world of photography, and I definitely have a lot to learn about lenses, but will I see a significant difference between the application or results between this lens and the Sony 50mm f/1.8 for use on an Alpha A6000?

Yes but it is up to you to decide if sharper images is worth giving up $500 and stabilization

Actually it is barely sharper on the A6000. Select the A6000 on the dropdown menu instead of the A7R II. Overall this is NOT worth it over the 50mm 1.8 OSS for APS-C cameras.

If you are OK with sacrificing OSS, then the Sigma 60mm 2.8 is FAR sharper than either of these.

No. The crop sensor 50 f1.8 is an awesome lens. It's significantly better than the FE 50 f1.8 actually. If you're not certain you're going to get a full frame body, it makes no sense to get this lens. That said, I love mine - it's an incredibly versatile lens and at f1.8 is razor sharp

Whether or not it is with the same xtra money on the a6000, hard to say but probably only if you are going to get an A7 series someday.

That said, I love the FE55 on both my a6000 and A7R. On the A6000, it acts like a short telephoto and if focuses extremely fast. I have used that combo for everything from portraits, to weddings to on the baseline at a basketball game with great success.

On the A7R it really shines, as it is the only lens I compare to the Sigma 50 1.4 Art. Sharpness, bokeh, colors and contrast are all excellent.
