Edit: to clarify, this does not need a C wire.

This is a good thermostat and I love being able to control it from my phone.

I live in an older apartment that only has 4 wires. I'm missing the C-wire and a lot of Wifi thermostats need this common wire to operate. This thermostat runs on AA batteries for me.

Check your wiring here: https://sensicomfort.com/tools/

Also if you watch ebay for a week or 2 you can find them for $60 - $80.

Does the app directly communicate with the thermostat or does it require some Emerson website? I'd love a wifi thermostat but have no desire to be at the mercy of a company keeping the service running 5 years from now for it to continue to work.

It uses the manufactures web server for control.

I absolutely LOVE these thermostats. I've never done a DIY install with a a guide as good and as helpful as the ones available for these. They look great on the wall, and I've had precisely zero issues with the app or the units since I installed them. Paid around $74 on Amazon when we got them, but they're worth the $100

I have 2 of these in my house and love them. This isnt the alltime best price on them but still a good price for what they are. (I think they were as low as $80 at one point).

There are plenty of reviews out there for them but I would buy them again if I needed to and always recommend this thermostat to friends and family.

It comes with a tiny built in wall plate. The extra one that this comes with is if you want/need to cover up some mis-matched paint or hole in your wall. See the picture linked below for the size of it without the additional wall plate.
