Just ordered a mi box and realize you get all this, if u combine offers. https://www.walmart.com/cp/sling-...er/4038581
And the mi box comes with the rest of the stuff. It says $50 3 month of sling which is $60, that's why I made the price $79 not $69 https://www.walmart.com/ip/548271...10&veh=aff

News announcement and some detailed spec here. [anandtech.com]

Features

It is Chromecast (built it, you can see it as a device in Google Cast app)
It is Android TV(With Google Play Store preinstalled) with so many streaming apps available.
You can install KODI from Google Play store
It Supports 4K
It Supports HDR
Voice Remote (Google)
Full-size USB 2.0 port (for ethernet and/or external storage)

So at a minimum, this is a combination of Roku Ultra (minus Amazon support) + Chromecast + Your favorite KODI player.

Drawbacks

No Ethernet (Can be added via USB adapter)
No SD card slot
No Amazon
Only 8gb onboard memory

This will NOT play Amazon videos officially. There are some ways to get it to kind of work, but last I checked HD video would not work and the UI isn't very good

To install Amazon Prime Video

Actually, you might be able to just install the Amazon Prime Video APK from a Sony Android TV update. It works great on my Shield and it's in HD.
Not necessarily, there have been reports that though it works for the Shield, the apk alone doesn't work on the Mi Box.

USB-to-Ethernet that works with Mi Box

To remove the Mi Box recommends rows:
Go to Settings->Apps->System apps. Scroll all the way to the right and it should be either the last item or close to it. Click XiaomiLeanbackCustomizer, then Disable. Reboot.

I picked one up in my local Walmart today after ordering online.

I stopped at the same store yesterday and they have a spot on the shelf for them but didn't have any on the shelf. I asked and the girl found them in the back for me but then some other worker stopped her and said that they weren't supposed to sell them until the 13th.

It's a decent box, especially for only $69. The Mi Box and any true Android TV device is infinitely better than knock-off Chinese models because the interface on true Android TV is designed to be used completely with a clicker remote. You also get true Netflix 4K support (confirmed working here) and YouTube 4K which you don't get with the knock off boxes. I noticed no stuttering in 4K Netflix or 4K YouTube.

Kodi works fine and I was able to stream ATSC HD over Wi-Fi without any issues. I also attached a USB hub with a 10/100 (not gigabit) ethernet port and that works fine. On other Android TV devices, I felt like USB to gigabit ethernet adapters didn't work right (I presume because the 480Mbps USB 2.0 port creates a bottleneck. So maybe consider going with 10/100 adapters.

The included HDMI cable didn't work for me.

The Mi Box defaulted to 720p60 on both my 1080p TV and on my 4K TV. I had to manually select the correct resolution on both TVs.

You get 5.1GB of user data on the device. You can attach a USB thumb drive and the device will offer to let you convert it to device storage (Android Marshmallow's adopted storage). Of course, storage performance will be limited by the USB 2.0 port speed and further limited if you are also using USB for ethernet.

In addition to all the above, you can pair a Bluetooth controller and play a variety of video games that are available in the Play Store.

For developers, turning on USB debugging seems to disable the USB port for use with ethernet or thumb drives. I do have the rare (and probably out-of-spec) USB A to A cable and I was able to get ADB working with this cable. I'm curious if Google or Xiaomi will be releasing kernel source for this AMLogic device. To date, I'm not aware of any AMLogic devices with kernel source available.

I got a free 3-month SlingTV subscription from Dish Network. I just started it two weeks ago.

If I order the Mi Box from Walmart, do I have to use the free SlingtV subscription right away?
I assume I can't just add one free subscription to another... so I guess I'll have to start a
different SlingTV account?

Thanks!

Just better in every way
Give details on how it is better than the more common alternatives? I'm looking for a streamer for a kid playroom. Is it family friendly?
