Microcenter has dropped their Intel i5 6600K (unlocked) processor to $199.99 plus tax and in-store only.

I just built my PC and this is definitely the lowest price for a new CPU.

Obviously most of you already know: if you're building a new machine, combo'ing with a motherboard will save you $30.

Tax adds $17 for me, and you can get this on ebay for $200 shipped. That's a better deal even if you picked up a motherboard since you'll incur tax on that too.

When combo'd w a mother board the tax doesn't make it much more if at all. The price difference is so negligible I'll be happy to pay tax to have a retail place with easy returns or exchanges. I like their replacement plans on mobos.

not everyone lives near a microcenter.
You should put it in the title to avoid wasting peoples time

also, people can obviously try and price match online or local B&M (YMMV).

Since microcenters aren't everywhere and they charge tax you could instead just order it from Jet for the same price sans tax with the triple15 code...

My friend just grabbed this deal for me a few days ago. It's decent deal but with the mobo 30 off, its great! We're meeting up soon for a trip so it worked out well. It sucks not living close to a microcenter though.

Yeah Microcenter has good bundle deals if you are lucky enough to live near one. But those that don't live anywhere near one will throw bricks at your windows out of spite if you post MC deals.

MC has had it this price before, and I think I only paid $10 more last year.

Sales tax sucks, but I find their bundles to be worth it. Also they sometimes have open box specials on motherboards for %15-20 off, and usually still eligible for the bundle price plus any mail in rebates. I've done several this way... I think out of 4 open box motherboards, 3 of them were fine and 1 had some kind of actual problem.

Damn, so many deals lately for parts. I was planning to hold off until holiday deals start rolling out. This is so tempting as I have micro center near me.

It is expected that cpus will be getting the best boost in performance since sandy bridge due to AMD actually challenging intel on IPC for the first time in a decade. You should be able to get a much better CPU for 200 in 2017 if you are willing to wait a few months Smilie

If you are just building a new computer , now is probably the worst time to buy. Play the market... if I had known about next year back in may when I picked up this i5, I probably could have swallowed just overclocking my ancient q9650 for another few months. There is a good chance a 4 core with Hyper Threading (aka and i7) will be the price of today's i5.
