Tablet for GPS

Rocklobst3r 427 60 October 9, 2016 at 02:11 PM
Looking to pick up a 6-7" tablet for GPS use in the car, as well as functioning as a music player via aux port.
Was looking at the Samsung Galaxy A 7" in particular any suggestions on the functionality of this unit, or something else? Was also thinking maybe a used Nexus 7.

Either a 2013 Nexus 7 or the Samsung you mention would work well. I think all Android Tablets right now have aux ports. bluetooth audio would work too. I think it comes down to what you want to spend. Just make sure you know this will be an offline map program.

As cool as those projects are, I still like CD's and physical buttons.

to Android platforms. I believe you should be aware of MotionX [motionx.com] for iPads & iPhones. MotionX is an excellent GPS app but it isn't currently available for Android devices.

... unless one's phone has the ability to serve as a hotspot. Personally, I think that's the way to go if you can. I've used MotionX, Navigon, TomTom, and Google Maps for iPhone and still think Google has the best offering.

I used Google Maps offline while in Colorado this summer. I was surprised that it even showed the Jeep trails we used to get many miles back into the mountains. Smilie

One of the more significant choices is whether or not you want a tablet with a cellular data connection.
