Good deal if you're collecting United miles for award trips.

Edit: looks like eBay is not part of MileagePlus Shopping anymore Frown

1000 miles? that's that worth, about $5?
I think most people would rather use a cashback site

I pity the fool who is shopping his way to a UA award trip.

1 United mile is valued approx. 1.4 cents: http://onemileatatime.boardingare...es-points/

So this is 7 cents per dollar additional bonus (+ whatever MileagePlus Shopping portal gives) if you do exactly $200 worth of shopping.

The value is based on award trips cost. E.g. one-way trip to Europe is 30,000 points.

whatever they're charging cash for one way trips to Europe isn't very slick, compared to round trip cost; you're grossly misrepresenting the value

your value is only valid for travelers who would book a one way to Europe for cash; for more rational folks who would book a round trip it's probably less than half the value, probably closer to 0.6 cpm. Sure, better than nothing. But I'd rather have cash back now than do this 30x.

If United miles are worth 1.5c, one way is valued $450, or $900 round trip. I know there have been sales recently, but for most people, especially from the West Coast, $900 round trip is a good deal. My tickets to Europe are often in the $1100-$1200 range, so 1 mile is worth closer to 2 cents for me. YMMV

Based on your own argument, if 30K is one-way (so 60K is round-trip), "rational" travelers can book cash fare roundtrip flights to Europe for $360 on United. Perhaps on occasion and on specific dates, but I don't buy that as the norm.

I booked a round-trip flight to Europe last year on United for my wife and I during peak travel time (LAX to LHR, CDG to LAX). 120,000 miles total. Cash price for the trip would have been $3,100. This was in economy, mind you. That's 2.6 cpm, so 1000 miles is worth $26, with that figure.
