why are people still burning things to physical media? I used to buy these types of things and copy rented DVDs, man what a waste of time that was.

if you want a thin external bd burner you are limited to 6x. for faster speeds like 10-16x they are still large.

Because it is "permanent" storage. Magnetic drives have mechanics that break, and the media will eventually lose the data if it is not rewritten to the disk. Most cases the optical media is cheaper than hard disks, and if you do get cheap hard disks on sale, those will break even sooner most likely. Also, people like the idea if their media starts to fail, they lose part of a 23.2GB disc, rather than have a 5TB brick to throw in the trash. If you don't care if your media lasts, then why even discuss it.

Now it's downloaded 3d blu-ray's. 1-2 per BD-R disc. Easier to toss on a disc once you've seen it on the off chance someone might want to see it again rather than tie up space on a server.
