hmm reviews aren't great. I'm looking for something to replace my usb3 hdd. I mainly download to it and share it (videos) via my computer to the network.

Thought so, thanks. I've never been able to get MasterPass to work anyway. My banks and credit cards just don't like it. Deal would be too sweet to pass on with MP code though.

Horribly slow processor (about 1/5 the speed of an i3/i5 ultrabook processor but lower wattage).

Does anybody know if it's possible to upgrade the SSD in this thing and\or install a different OS like openfiler, or some lite linux distro?

Have the 2-bay version, could never figure out how get it to previous state when there is power outage or a restart, without doing that stupid Alt-Ctrl-Del and password credentials by connecting keyboard and mouse every time,, without that you can't access the files on NAS. Overall, very consumer unfriendly OS.

Also, the hardware is super slow.

Wand, RDP (remote desktop app installed by default on all windows clients) or teamviewer to it.

I have the W2000 version, 2 bay. I was able to upgrade to 4gb. There is a lengthy and informative thread around here some where around here about the RAM upgrade. I can direct stream at least one stream with Plex, it can not do h.265 transcoding, I've never tried more than one stream. I use mine for Plex, FTP server, iTunes server and seedbox and serves my needs well. Also I put Win 8.1 on it. 8.1 is a little quicker than Server and uses less resources.

Seems this is a fair price given all the poor review on newegg and amazon, and the fact it runs windows server.

If a QNAP at this price I'll jump on it anytime.

If this NAS can be loaded with Linux or OpenBSD that'd be a different story.
