You may want to put PoE in your title. Without it, this wouldn't even be a deal.

That said, I grabbed this set last time around in Jul 16. Same set, $700 + tax, except they upped the HD from 1TB to 2TB. Wonder if Costco will give me some sort of price adjustment.

Very impressed with the picture, day & night. So far, I have managed to find a way to run 6 out of 8 of the cameras. Two more and I'm done. That part, I'm not enjoying so much..

Thank you, updated info. with PoE.

does this system do a good job getting number or license plates? I holding off for a 5mp or greater security system.

I bought them primarily for the PoE setup and Costco's un-matchable return policy, not specifically to read licence plates. That said, given the high resolution recording, I would think that any video manipulation software would be able to blow up a licence plate enough to make it out. I haven't tried, so I may be wrong.

What I have tried is viewing the video on a 70 inch HDTV and the picture is stunning!

I'm sure 5mp bullets, given the same specs otherwise, would provide a bit clearer zooms on a license plate, though. Then you'll wish you had waited for the 8mp bullets... Smilie

isnt the bottleneck with the NVR, only able to record in 1080p?
granted, it is always good to have a higher resolution camera to start off with and upgrade the NVR at a later date
but 3MP is actually higher than 1080p already
1080p is at around 2MP

Last year I bought a similar Lorex IP DVR from Costco. Happy with the system, but one of the cameras died 2 months out of the one-year Lorex warranty. Multiple calls to Costco (both customer service and tech support) and they refused to honor any kind of warranty. They were rather unapologetic about it as well.

The camera died after being sprayed accidentally with a pressure washer. (This shouldn't have broken it, but still my fault.). Costco didn't know this though. I just said it stopped working.

I still recommend these Costco kits to friends versus a build your own solution. But I too thought I was getting the benefit of Costco's "unbeatable" return policy. That policy only applies to specified items, and surveillance systems aren't included.

Costco's tech support referred to the always-returnable policy as "a myth." I've read their fine print now and...yeah.

As per your other question: These 3mp cameras are pretty good. If you went for a 5mp camera, you're going to need to invest in some large hard drives or really reduce the frame rate

In this case, the bottleneck is the NVR. That said, I'm very satisfied so far. After I have a couple years using these bullets, I'll know better on what direction I can take them.

hikvision is an OEM, they dont have their own brands (except for EZVIZ, but thats after their success in OEM)
so no, not rebranded hikvision, but OEM by hikvision, then yes

Really? This is good to know.
I thought it only applies if the surveillance system has a screen, than it's 90 days, otherwise it should be covered.
Did you actually take it back to costco in person?

I took back a 4 year old Swann system that stops working, no questions asked. Full refund. YMMV
