I would have to agree this is the best all around budget machine I've seen in a while.

For those unaware, the Pentium SoC in this machine is NOT the glorified tablet chip usually found in these super cheap laptops. This is actually nearly at parity with a Haswell class i3 as thund3rcat referenced.

It is MUCH more capable than the other Celeron/Pentium budget offerings typically powering budget machines from this price category (the nomenclature of this and the other Pentiums is a horrid confusion Intel should have avoided).

If anyone considering this has more demanding needs for graphics performance I suggest considering waiting for a skylake gen i3 based deal as the iGPU in this is attenuated versus the other skylake iseries iGPUs. That said, it is still more than competent for most everyday use (1080p/4k playback, casual games, smooth web experience, light home user level photo/video work, etc). All considered...the Lenovo brand, the 14" form factor, touch screen...this is a VERY solid deal for anyone on a budget.

Great deal post OP!

* If only this had a 1080 display it would be on like donkey kong lol. Granted it would be more expensive, but I'd pay $50-$100 more if it had a better display. Still though, great deal for what it is, for the right consumer : )

Crucial has a tool on their website that you can input your PC model number or let it scan your PC and it will display all compatible SSDs and RAM. http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/advisor

After the scan, I used the following Crucial SSD and RAM models. I decided to just go with 8 gigs of RAM over 16 since 16 would have cost another $50 and didn't feel it was necessary for my uses.

Crucial MX300 275GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT275MX300SSD1

Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - BLS8G4S240FSD

I didn't try to migrate anything since it was a new PC anyways. I just created a bootable USB drive by going here. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../windows10 and following the instructions.

The PC is pretty easy to take apart and upgrade. Just tiny phillips screws and a little bit of slow prying with a credit card.

Only 3 screws on the HDD to take it out. It has a mounting bracket attached to it. 4 screws to take the bracket off the HDD and then attached to the new SSD. Then plug back in and put 3 screws back. Pretty easy.

The RAM was a little more annoying. It has a silver metal cover with a bunch of little clips around it. I just carefully popped the clips out as much as I could and took the cover off to expose the RAM. Unclip the clips on each side and it pops out. Popped in new RAM and put the cover back and done.

It came up pretty quick from the USB boot drive and installed no problem. Once back up, let it install all the windows updates with restarts it needs and now it is pretty zippy.

does tax factor in the Amex offer?

say, if i have $240 worth of items and 5% tax, that makes it $252. Will this purchase qualify for $25 off from amex?

thanks

whats the best way to get a edu account?

Either ask a friend to use their edu account, or FIVERR ( fiverr.com ) pay someone $5 to make you one. did this half earlier in the year to get a edu discount on dji phantom.

Hard drive and RAM are serviceable, according to the hardware maintenance manual. Best Buy also says the DDR4 memory is expandable to 16GB.
