FYI - Google Home Offer for 6 months of YouTube Red

-4 Deal Score
2,235 Views
This is an offer that Home owners should receive. Here is the link:
https://support.google.com/google...ic=7072888

These are the details:
United States
Get YouTube Red FREE for 6 months. More songs, more versions, no ads.
Promotional offer is for new YouTube Red subscribers only. Current or prior subscribers to YouTube Red or Google Play Music are not eligible. Limit one offer per Google Home device.
Purchase a new Google Home and redeem the 6-month promotional offer by subscribing to YouTube Red via the Google Home app by 12/31/16.
Promotional offer requires enrollment in a YouTube Red subscription and provision of a valid payment method for continued service after the promotional period. To avoid being charged, you must cancel before the end of the six month period. After the six month period, YouTube Red will charge your payment method $9.99 each month plus applicable tax, on a recurring basis until you cancel via the My YouTube Red page.
This offer is only supported in locations where both Google Home and YouTube Red have launched, currently the United States.

I'm unsure if this is able to be used on a YouTube account that your Google Home account is not linked to. If so, it saves people roughly $60, which is nearly half the Google Home cost. Pretty decent IMO. If I can use it on an account not linked to my Google Home account, that would be enough to convince me to buy!

Don't suppose anyone can confirm one way or the other?
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Interesting reasons for downvotes...:
Not a good price 43%
Spam, Self Promotion 14%
Not a good product 14%
Other 29%
43% said a 6 month trial of a $10 a month service for those who buy a $120 product (Google Home) is not a good price. That's interesting. Spam/Self Promotion? I'm not Google, and this is an FYI of a deal available to those who purchased Google Home. One could argue the 'Not a good product' for not liking YouTube red (I think it is overpriced and should only be $5). Other is a fine reason though.

Anywho, if this doesn't help anyone, then I apologize for taking up your time! Have a great day all.

Here's how I see it:

Not a good price
Amazon Echo is the darling of the current community, so paying 2x the price of a Dot just to save money on a competing service doesn't make it a good price.

Spam
This is the 7th repost of the same deal. I guess yours didn't get deleted because all of the other posts have been deleted one-by-one. Maybe your post is next. It looks like the mods are aggregating this into the same thread as the original "Google Home" posts, since this deal is mentioned in those original posts.

Not a good product
Again, if you're posting a deal for a competitor's product to the one that the community prefers, expect the downvotes.

Other
It's SlickDeals. For every thread about YouTube Red, there are at least a dozen comments about using a custom .apk or stuff from Cydia. You don't need to pay $10 a month to skip ads or download videos: It's free if you know where to look. I'm assuming those are the "Other" downvotes.

Just giving you some feedback since you're asking! By no means a bad deal, but I don't think the community thinks it's slick, especially since whiteknights know a repost when they see one.

That makes some (albeit twisted) sense. This wasn't so much a price comparison applicable item, as it was intended to just make sure people who bought a Google Home were aware they can get 6 Months of YouTube red for free, but if it were comparing Home to Echo, I definitely understand the sentiment.

Huh, I actually searched the forums 2x over thinking, 'Surely this must be posted somewhere!', but ffffboth searches came up dry for applicable results. But I was searching for Youtube Red, not a Google Home specific thread by itself, so that is likely where my error was. If I can find out how to move this thread elsewhere, I will. Thanks for pointing that out!

I actually am completely unaware of these alternate options you are talking about, and will now have to look into them! If I can save myself $120 a year, that is definitely worth looking into! TY for explaining that as well!

I was in fact asking, and I greatly appreciate the feedback! Props have been given, and I hope you continue to explain to others who somehow missed things completely as I did here Smilie
