driverguide.com is this a legit site?

35,094 6,222 September 22, 2008 at 09:49 AM
It the past I've stumbled across a couple of driver sites that were basically just a means to collect email address...but http://www.driverguide.com/ was recommended to me and I wanted to poll the Tech Forum if they used http://www.driverguide.com/ as a quality source.

I need a few drivers for unidentified components on a re-install I'm working on.

I of course don't want honk up the box with bogus spy-ware laden code...so I'd rather check with you guys 1st.worship

Thanks!

I used it way back, very nice site until they limit the download.
I now just use newegg's link to manufactors and the company of the hardware.

legit, used to be an amazing site then they sold out. If you can manage to survive the barrage of adds and the terrible interface you will find drivers for just about anything.

I'll try the newegg trick also...but on this mobo that I'm trying to get stuff for does not have the model number or brand on it, that I can find thus far...I might have to yank the board out as it could be written on the back.

If I try, I might fail. If I don't try, I will fail.

OK...I tried their special driver locate program...then it says ok...we have the drivers, but now you have to pay for them....

Is this how it works...or am I being scammed at this point?Confused

well its not so much a scam as it is a service for the lazy. Just like if you take your car to get its oil changed, sure you can do it yourself but some people would rather pay to have someone else do it for them. So rather than paying for the program you could just find out what the device is and then download and install the driver yourself.

What sucks in this case is that VIA board is quite old and no longer on the VIA website.

I may just disable the on-board card and drop in ISA Vid card if I have to!

* ok...so the board has one ISA slot on it...I guess I could spare a PCI card Wink

a little OT but I work for my schools IT department, and today I had to rebuild a 133mhz machine, and copy over software off a 5.25" disk. The device that "needed" to be using this old machine hooked up by an ISA slot.

Im not too young (22) but I think thats the first time I have ever used an ISA slot before.
