The reviews, albeit few in number, at Walmart.com don't sound very positive. I'm having trouble finding reviews on Amazon or anywhere else. Is this model exclusive to Walmart? Can anyone who owns this brand or model give their honest opinion? Thanks.

Wow usually a 65" 4k thread, especially at $599, gets a ton of heat. I can't believe there are only 2 responses here.

The reviews didn't look horrible to me. One seems to be a bad set, one gave no information why they didn't like the TV, and the rest of the negative were bad sound which is every TV ever.

I'm in for the replies too, one of you TV snobs has to know about this one!

these are the rejects from when China dumped goods on the market in Feb/March.. few takers then, but put them close to a religious holiday and turkey... and fools gobble gobble gobble..

Had a Hitachi tv years ago. Mediocre quality at best. Wouldn't buy another.

We deciced to upgrade to a larger screen and a newer smart tv ( the Apps on our 6yr old vizio no longer work, curious about 4k, wouldn't mind a larger screen, ... ). While waiting for some technology to mature and prices to come down further on A rated systems, we purchased a budget friendly Hitachi 65R8.

Things went OK during setup, easy enough, bit different because of the Roku tie in, but as long as you have your internet on and peripherals nearby, it is a breeze.

Onto watching content.
Link our Netflix account. Stream a UHD show. Loading. Crash.
Link our Amazon account. Stream a show. Loading. Crash.
Houston?
Let's just watch some TV from the cable box on HDMI1. Anywhere between 2min to 20min later, the TV crashes.

The TV screen quality seemed OK (it comes preset to max vivid, backlight, contrast etc ...) after some tweaking, for the brief time that we used it and the bit of HD we saw upscaled and 4K we steamed.

The sound quality is next to nothing. Rear facing tiny speakers that put out nothing. We had the TV volume on 90-95 to watch ordinary TV. Had to use SPDIF to tie in our surround system.

But most importantly the constant crashing is unacceptable and totally erodes my confidence in Hitachi. A brand new product manufactured in Nov 2016 that is as unstable as an alpha product?

AVOID !
