Yamaha TSR-7810 @ Costco [costco.com] -> $449 (possible $424 using in-store voucher. See #4) In store voucher dead, so just the $489.99 now..

This has been at this price for a little while, but it is a very good deal for the following reasons.

1) It's warehouse model number for Yamaha's RX-V781. The specifications are identical, but the price is quite a bit different. The lowest price on the web from an authorized dealer is $799. The refurbished unit sells for $580.
2) It's similar in specs to Yamaha's Aventage model RX-A860 or the very popular RX-A850.
http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/artic...11034/9209
3) It's Costco, who has some of the best customer service around, and are an authorized dealer.
4) Costco has in-store vouchers for $25 off $250+ purchase. Each code on the voucher is unique. More information here.
5) Checks all the right boxes: 4k compatible, HDCP 2.2, Atmos, DTX:X, WiFi, Bluetooth, multizone audio, dual HDMI out, multipoint YPAO, 7.2 channel preouts, analog-to-hdmi scaling, etc.

YPAO Multipoint Audio:
According to this article, Yamaha has employed some changes to their YPAO calibration for 2016, but I can't find out how many DSP processors are in the standard line vs the Aventage line. Read more here [audioholics.com].

Don't think it can do 5.4.2 - so you can only get two atmos overhead speakers rather than the 4 recommended.

How comparable is this to the Denon X3300W deal that pops up on Frys but most people can't get?

Love my yamaha receiver. For pure power, sound, and performance, it's hard to beat.

Only negatives are the lack of certain bells & whistles -- no audessey, no airplay, etc.

I just sit this receiver up last night, and replaced a broken Denon AVR-S910W. I think the multi-positional YPAO is very comparable to the Audessey. But, I couldn't do side-by-side comparisons. But, it was the same room, and only a couple days apart of listening. In short, I can't hear the difference between the two calibration techniques.

I haven't tried MusicCast to see how that compares to airplay.... I plan on hooking up an Amazon Dot for my music streaming...

Put it this way, I've looked at every possible specification, manual, and picture. I cannot find a difference between the two of them. Same MSRP, same number of inputs/outputs, same picture, same manual, same dimensions, same weight, etc.

So, I bought this on Sunday, and set it up last night. It's worth every penny I paid.

For clarification, this model has Airplay.

X3300 has Audyssey MULT EQXT 32 vs YPAO RSC
X3300 has two zone HDMI output (2 different sources), vs Yamaha 2 HDMI outputs (source is mirrored).
X3300 has more HDMI inputs (7 vs 5).
Yamaha supports second zone audio AND Atmos. Denon gives up second zone audio, if Atmos is used.

Those are the two big differences in my opinion.

Are you finding these TSR-7810 units available/in stock in stores?
I called a couple of local stores in the Dallas area, and they only have the TSR-5810 available in store? you can order the 7810 online.

Thanks

7810 is only available online -- also, if you call and tell them your 25$ coupon isn't working they will provide a coupon over the phn for you to use

I have been happily using Airplay and MusicCast on several RX-V479,579,679, RX-A550. The combination is a multi-input multi-output distributed audio system, very impressive. More general and powerful than either system alone or Sonos.

The "AV Controller" and "MusicCast" APP on iOS and Android are excellent and stable. Each works intuitively but the interaction between the APPs takes time to understand. For example, changing the name or authorizing firmware update on a receiver should be in "AV Controller" but is in MusicCast instead.

Airplay occasionally freezes when resuming from receiver auto power off or long iPad pause, needs power unplug or reset on the receiver. Firmware updated a couple times in several months (auto detect, authorize on screen or MusicCast APP, painless). MusicCast did freeze a few times, haven't used enough to figure out the trigger condition.

Got 7810 just now. So far seen no software difference.

MusicCast shows no error when a receiver playing Airplay as the master, but produces no sound on slaves. Web comments say it is a limitation imposed by Apple. Apple wants only its device as the center of a system. A work around on x79 is hardwired USB, but x81 removed Apple interface on USB !!!
