I don't think that the Sony XBR75X850D has local dimming.

That being said, I know nothing about Sharp and haven't recalled hearing any good things. I have heard good about Sony TV's though.

I'd hesitate to spend that much on a tv that is not Samsung or (maybe) LG. IMO.

It depends on this TVs upscaling... Sony TVs have the best upscaling of 1080 to near 4K and less motion blur....I think 850d is a better bet even though it has IPS panel and grayish blacks..

I agree that the Sony is a better unit but this one is definitely a great deal at 25% less than the Black Friday price of the Samsung. I'd prefer Sony or Samsung over this but they are much more expensive for a unit with similar specs and prefer Sharp over Vizio or LG.

Is this model a Sam's exclusive? I can't find reviews for this exact model. Can't even find detailed specs like number of dimming zones.

Is this TV actually a Hisense? http://www.techhive.com/article/2...ymore.html

That Samsung doesn't appear to have HDR. This one and the Sony do. The Samsung has local dimming, but rtings review says it's rather ineffective. The Sony is edge-lit.

My biggest concern is Sharp TVs are no longer made by Sharp. They are made by Hisense. $2k for a Hisense TV sounds risky.

The Samsung does have HDR10 or at least accepts the input after a firmware update. From what I can tell by looking at rtings, 4K and cnet, it's a pretty good all around 75". Snagged one via Samsung EPP for 1850 (before tax).

I think this may be the Sam's exclusive model of the LC-75N8000U. They look virtually identical.
If that's the case, it's 16-zone edge-lit local dimming.
Are "wide gamut" and "10-bit" the keywords to look for in determining whether a TV displays HDR rather than just accepts the input?

If this is indeed same as LC-75N8000U, it would be Opera TV.
