Heads up, Sears [sears.com]has this for $50 with free shipping as well. This might be a better option for a lot of people if you have surprise points or accumulated points you need to spend. I have a $12 on $50 offer, so with a small filler this is actually gonna be under $40 for me.

If I already have a Wink Hub, is there any particular reason why SmartThings might be better?

Amazon [amazon.com] and Sears [sears.com] both also have the SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit for $150. Lowest price it's ever been by about $50 according to the camels.

Can someone help and tell me if I need this. I'm not using any motion sensor, leak detector, etc. All I plan to get is ecobee thermostat, hue lights. I have an amazon echo and harmony elite, which I think can control the lights. Will I still benefit from this hub?

You should be fine without it, I run Nest, Hue, Harmony Elite without it (though I just bought one 😜), it works by adding Z-wave/Zigbee, just adds another way of communication (for example Harmony Hub can't control certain devices without adding the Hub Extender)

Thanks. For $50 i thought, screw it I'll go ahead and get it. Free same day delivery, not bad.

Dell [dell.com] has the monitoring kit for 150 also, plus 10% back in rewards. anyone that had that amex offer might as well just grab two set and sell the hub for cheap. those sensor and outlet alone pretty much add up to more than the price.
