Panasonic 2.2 cu ft microwave oven for $168 (Model: NN-SD987SA)

Bestbuy has this full-size (2.2cu ft) microwave oven [bestbuy.com] for an already low price of $210 (other places have it for about $309).
However, RMN has a new 20% off code on regular-priced, small appliances (RMNAPPLY20) which takes it down to about $168!

Edit: Don't forget 1% CB and Amex $25 off $250 purchase. You can get the Amex deal through multiple purchases adding up to $250 total.
If you count the Amex CB as another 10% and 1% EB CB, the total price (for me) would be $148.63 (before tax).

This is a large, stainless-steel full-size microwave with Inverter technology.

Our Panasonic microwave (with inverter) from 12 years ago finally broke a week ago and we've been on the hunt for a new one since. There are decent options on the market (LG 2.0 cu ft and Samsung 1.4 cu ft) for $149 on sale but, when we checked them out in person, we found them to be a bit cheaply made. In fact, most of the counter-top microwave ovens we've seen (checked Sears, Walmart, Bestbuy, Lowes, Home Depot, Macys) are cheaply made. The $500+ models are made well but they're about the same build quality as this one.

Even though 2.2cu ft seems large (our old one is 1.6), we measured this Panasonic and its dimensions are about the same as our old one, but a bit taller, which actually fits better under our cabinet.

Inverter technology, which runs microwave generator (magnetron) at a constant low speed (i.e. 20% or 50%), is patented by Panasonic so nobody else has it. Non-inverter microwaves run the magnetron at 100% full speed then turns on and off to obtain 50% power. They vary this alternating pattern to achieve different levels of power.

I did quite a bit of research in the past week as I waited for a replacement microwave hehe.

I also looked for all possible coupons but couldn't find them, until tonight. The 10% mover's coupon doesn't include Bestbuy anymore (at least in my area). Lost a $1 there but eh. This 20% off coupon made up for it. Smilie

Microwave reviews are concerning. I guess it's expected with microwaves? Either it works well or it doesn't and it's too expensive to repair or nonrepairable.

That's some serious new math to say the AmEx discount works for this deal. All you need is $82 in filler!

I just bought a 2.2 several weeks ago and ended up returning it. The 2.2 size is HUGE and was an overkill for my family of 4.

Just threw out the previous gen of this microwave. Does well heating food, though it can be a bit loud. The biggest issue was the push button door opener broke after a year so I was constantly slamming the door to close or it would "close" but the light would stay on so it wouldn't start. Have read several reviews that say the same thing. Overall, I wouldn't recommend a Panasonic microwave. There are better options out there.

Sure there are, higher end stuff. Like OP posted microwave, so as to why I asked.

Regarding appliances Zojirushi stuff is Made in Japan, I just this bought rice cooker and it is fantastic and getting used everyday.

Higher end knives/steel, Shimano components on bike etc. Even krazy glue laugh out loud

We're on our third one of these after about 15 years. Love em, but we don't do stainless, just white.

Was just shopping for a Microwave, love the looks and tech of Panasonic. Went by Home Depot, walked up to the first Panasonic 2.2 cu ft on display (not this model) and tried to open the door. I had to really mash the door open button with my finger and pull the door with my other hand to get it to work. So I guess these really do have issues with the door mechanism.

I had one. Nice while it worked, but then would not turn on or would randomly power off. Not reliable.

Well $25 off 250 is 10%. I did note that you need a total of 250 to get it but you can get there through multiple purchases.
