50 too small for 4k unless you are sitting 4 feet away. for a vast majority of people who have 50" sets, 1080p is plenty. i have no idea about the quality of this 1080p set though, it could be crap. but using a 4k vs 1080p argument in this price range at this size has virtually no validity. at the same price and this size, for average use i would take a slightly better performing 1080p set over a 4k set any day all day. any tv reviewer will tell you exactly the same.

The hisense is a better deal. A bit smaller, but has 4k, HDR 8 and 10. Smart apps are a bit limited compared to Roku. However, picture quality and sound make up for it. It all depends on how much you need the extra 6 inches....(insert joke here)

About 23 inches in the front and back of the legs, they are shaped like this: < >, so at the widest points which are directly under the tv itself, it is about 28 inches from outer edge to outer edge. This is on my 50 inch set. I took a picture, not the greatest image, but maybe you can zoom in and get a better idea of what it looks like. I hope this helps!

If I don't care about 4k or HDR, how does this compare to JVC? I picked up a JVC 50" 1080p dumb TV last week for $298 at Walmart. It's really slim, seems good. I'm more concerned with quality and longevity than anything. It's just for the kids to watch Netflix and play the wii. We have a fire stick for it so don't need anything fancy.

I would say this is a slightly better deal for the same size as the jvc -- all these are made by some companies and then branded -- for what you are describing as the use case, both should be good. The Roku aspect would make this a much better deal for some, but if that is not important to you then this is only slightly better. I think there is a non-Roku Insignia version of the same size/specs for $230 so if you want to save $70 I would get that
