Moto G4 Play (Verizon Prepay Version) $39 Dollar General YMMV

I found this phone at my local Dollar General store priced at $39. The store had two of them priced this way, but I didn't see it advertised at this price so it may vary for your locations. This phone is advertised to be $29 on Black Friday at Dollar General, but even $39 is a great deal for the device.

To save research for anybody interested, this phone currently has extreme limitations as to what carriers it can be activated on. Out of the box it can only work with Verizon prepay service or Verizon postpay if you complete one month of prepay service first. You can also buy an unlock code for this phone on ebay to be able to use it on Verizon MVNOs. I did this and it worked perfect for my Total Wireless line that I had active. Based on all the information I have gathered, this phone does not have the ability to be activated on GSM carriers.

Here is the ebay link for the unlock code $2.22, I received my code within 8 hours of purchase

Best Buy link just for general reference, spec info, reviews, etc..

Also I tried to find this on Dollar General website to no avail, so no link!

I've been told not to bother with dollar general and phones. They have them behind glass jewel cases like they're gold or something. I mean like seriously do I really need the store manger to unlock the case and hand me the phone? What century are we living in?
It was quite a traumatic event having to ask the cashier to grab the phone, glad someone can relate with me

What are you smoking guy? Literally every walmart in a 60 mile radius around me has every phone locked up either behind glass or locked onto the the little metal arm holding it on the rack.

This is standard practice, especially at stores that lower income individuals frequent.

Can you use it on a Verizon postpay account without completing the month of prepay service if you unlock it with the ebay link?

How do you unlock? Verizon wants you to pay for 6 months.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. If it works with Verizon MVNOs (not all of which are prepaid), it stands to reason that it should work with Verizon postpaid as well.

No, that is implemented by Verizon's DMD.

You have to understand this. Most dollar general open their store where there aren't many major stores around, and majority of folks swipe their EBT card. Not to mention the area they choose to open the store suffer with junkies walking around here and there with their pant is almost down half way down and over size shirts like hanging on hangers.
Heh, once went to a Baskin Robbins in Puerto Rico and had to get them to buzz me in just to get through the front door. Now that's ambiance.
