Newegg is offering $250 (19%) off of an MSI gaming laptop with a GTX 1060. The total comes to $1099 before tax, and the next closest I could find was B&H at $1259.

GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB
Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz)
16 GB Memory DDR4 2133 (8GBx2)
1 TB HDD 7200RPM
15.6" Full HD 1920 x 1080 60Hz
15.07" x 10.23" x 0.86"-1.14" 4.80 lbs.

A good deal on a fairly lightweight (4.8 lbs) gaming laptop, with the only caveats being:

1) GTX 1060 is the 3GB version vs. 6GB
2) No installed SSD - you will want to install your own M.2 NVMe for max performance.
3) Wifi is the Intel 3165 Stone Peak 1 (1x1), which although may be adequate, is not a gaming grade WLAN card.

Great deal. I just spent a bit more and went with a Sager that had a G-Sync display, RGB keyboard, and SSD, but for $1,100 this can't be beat.

And if you install the SSD yourself, you might risk of losing warranty by breaking the seal.

Any thoughts on whether the previous MSI deal provides better value? https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/235751

I'd rather have the 15 inch screen in this deal and not have to deal with rebates, but there's more ram on the GPU for the other deal.

does the 3gb version also come with less cores, like what is happening on the desktop side?

from what i understand, msi will not invalidate the warranty if all you did was add memory or ssd. at least, that what i was told by msi reps in the notebookcheck or review forums back in 2014.

Yeah, same on the mobile side: 3GB has 1152 cuda cores vs. 1280 on the 6GB

How does everyone else thinks this compares to the Gigabyte laptop?

The Gigabyte is only $50 more but has the 6GB card and an SSD. Is Gigabyte not as solid of a brand? Is the RAM faster on this MSI or something (some hardware difference I'm missing)?

This model is seems to be the one that comes out on top, my other two choices were gonna be the 17" ibuypower and the acer... both brands I am not too sure about with this much power. MSI gives me a bit more confidence even though the screen is small not sure if I even want a 17 inch screen.
