The AC68U/R/W has slightly better range, the R7000 a faster CPU.
Price/value wise, nothing beats the $60 T-Mobile branded AC68U.
Both of these router were $200 when launched, can frequently be bought below $150 for new, and you see $120 ish for refurbished quite often as well. For $60 the TMo is a steal. You get a contemporary dual-core router for yesterdays router prices.

The R7000 can run Shibby Tomato [groov.pl], Kong DD-WRT [desipro.de], and with some tweeting, even AsusWRT-Merlin (Vortex) [xvtx.ru].

The R7000 has a dual core 1Ghz CPU and can be overclocked to 1.2 or sometimes 1.4 Ghz and runs cool. The AC68U has a dual core 800 Mhz CPU (can be overclocked to 1Ghz) but runs warmer. Have them both, both great routers.

If you want to run a VPN on your router or use USB 3 port for fast data transfer the R7000 will serve you better. If you just want a new router for regular use and wireless range take either one you get for less. The R7000 is wall mountable, the AC68U/R/W is not!. The R7000 looks "better", more feisty. ;-)

it's a good price, what he means to say is the price of new routers skyrocketed while the older ones stayed relatively the same for some reason.

This router is a steal at this price. I have done some testing using this router and it showed great throughput and stability. I have been waiting for this to finally drop in price from the $200 price tag I kept seeing for it.

Yes it's an excellent price.

Hoping Best Buy will drop the Asus RT-AC1900P. That one is a better hardware version of the RT-AC68U.

How does this compare with the TMobile rebranded ASUS AC1900 router that was on here a few days ago for $60?

While I love this router - I also saw linksys AC1900 ACS model @$144 on Amazon... I know the AC model was crap but that's the lowest I've seen ACS.
