Best price for these drives recently.

https://www.amazon.com/16TB-Deskt...words=16tb

Most people buy this WDBLWE0160JCH-NESN just to remove the drives. Be aware that the enclosre only accepts Western Digital drives.

I was charged tax.

B&H Photo and Newegg is the better deal, no tax and as of 11/28 499.00

Looks like prices between the 3 stores fluctuate from $499 to $549 so keep checking the store you prefer for the lower price.

This is also available from B&H for the same price, if you are not in NY, then you can save a bit on tax:

WD My Book Duo 16TB (2 x 8TB)

B&H for $499:

Newegg also has it for $499:

this isn't a good price if you are ripping drives out.... you can get the 8tb external for 230 pretty regularly.

Waiting for the wd external 8tb to be around 200 to upgrade the rest of my nas. Using 3 SMR drives right now for cold storage but need 3 more for active read write.

Its not a good price, you can get the 8tb for 230 pretty regularly. If this was $400, Id jump on it.

As of a few months ago WD didnt have a green 8tb they make, so you either get a red or a HGST Enterprise (if you are lucky).

Google around, haven't checked in 2-3 months to see if they changed that with their new version of the external 8tb.

Thanks to OP for pointing out that some ditch the enclosure. It seems to be related to some sort of encryption "feature" where you might not be able to recover your data if the enclosure goes *bad* (Edit: typo):

Also thanks to inspir3d for pointing out prices of bare drives around 230.

The enclosure seems to be a problem for some.

My impression is that the Duo is guaranteed to be WD Red drives, but sometimes the single enclosures can be low end HGST drives. Do you know if the single enclosures are guaranteed to be WD Red drives now?

Agreed that this price is not good. Needs to be sub $400 to be a slick deal.
They now have a WD80EZZX model instead of WD80EFZX (proper red drive). EZZX is the green version with no TLER support. Whoever gets this is likely to end up with this new EZZX drive.

From the 30 minutes I spent looking around, I believe this array and all Duo arrays come with two proper red drives (EFZX). I believe the single drive WD My Book arrays come with something random, which is now probably the EZZX drive and is not a proper Red drive.

They even show a picture on the Amazon page of the Duo drive array half-missing with two branded Red drives inside.
