Easiest way to do the recovery media (will consume about 11GB on your USB drive)
1. Create an account on https://support.lenovo.com/
2. Register your new laptop (use the Serial Number to add the laptop to your account).
3. Once you have done that, click on the "photo of your laptop" that will be added to your account.
4. On the new page/tab that opens, click on "Drivers & Software" on the top navigation bar
5. On the resulting screen, near the top, you will find a "blue box" with the title "Access Recovery Media". Click on that link.
6. You will then be taken here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/l...overyMedia
7. Walk through the step-by-step process. You will need to input your serial number to verify eligibility.
8. Upon completion, a long unique identifier will be sent to you via e-mail along with instructions to follow.
9. Follow the instructions to download the Lenovo USB Recovery Creator and cut/paste the unique identifier. Make certain you have a spare USB thumb drive available (16GB+).

The recovery media will consume about 11GB on your USB drive.

Given the form factor, it should be very easy to add a 2.5" SSD drive to it. Likely need a Torx screwdriver (T5 or T6) to open the bottom of the laptop case.

Install MR on a different x64 Windows computer (needed to create the rescue media).

Create the "rescue media/disk" (I prefer a USB flash drive for speed, but a CD will work as long as the target machine has an optical drive). If using MR, select the Win10 PE to create it (the SW will walk you through this). See this article [macrium.com]. Verify you can boot from it and access your disk(s) once complete.

When you receive the new laptop, plug-in/insert this rescue media in before power-on. Now there a 2 methods to access the BIOS options to set boot order (I posted them earlier in the thread), but this isn't really necessary at this point - but it can't hurt either). The "one time boot" using the F12 key works fine for this operation. If using a CD vs USB you will need to insert it into the tray by using a paper clip to open it .

Plug in a USB external HDD to write the image to.

Power on the laptop and immediately begin tapping the F12 key. This will bring up the "one-time boot" menu. Select the drive with the rescue media in it to boot from and wait for the SW to load, then click the backup tab.

Select the M2 drive (entire drive, not just a partition) as source, and external USB drive as "image file" destination. Double check your intentions, and finish.

You will then have a full untouched image of the M2 drive saved as a file on your external USB HDD. If you ever want to restore to pure OOB stock, just reboot the rescue media, select the file you created, and restore it to the chosen disk.

For people worried about their pending payments being cancelled..

It's normal for the credit authorization to be removed after a certain time. Just because it gets removed, it doesn't mean the order is getting cancelled or the order is being made.

The best option is to call the customer service rep about the status of the order. I waited 40 minutes to get someone on the phone to ask that question and they assured me that the order will go through.

Ordered 11/25 12pm PST, released to manufacturer state as of now

Just got an email from Lenovo Customer Service

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent purchase of the ThinkPad E570. Your order is very important to us.

Due to the popularity of this product, we are seeing a delay in shipments and are working to meet this increased demand. At this time your order is scheduled to ship by January 25, 2017. We apologize for this delay.

Given the shipment delay, you may choose to:

1) Keep your order placed: we will work to fulfill the laptop as soon as we can. If you would like to do this, simply call our toll-free customer service number 1- 855-253-6686 option 1 to let us know. If no response by January 5, 2017, your order will cancel automatically.

2) Cancel your order: if you would like to cancel, please click here or call 1-855-253-6686 option 1. You may cancel your order at any time before it is shipped to you. Please note that additional time may be required for your financial institution to process the cancellation of the charge authorization against your account.

Due to missing your first committed ship date you may also receive a second email stating that your order has been delayed. Please use today's email as your point of reference.

We will continue to post the most current shipment dates on our Order Status page on Lenovo.com. This can be accessed via the link below.

the Q&A says this

If I order with the second hard drive can Lenovo install the OS on the SSD instead of the HDD?
1 answer

Lenovo · 11 days ago

No, the OS is always installed on the HDD.
Wait, so there's a chance this ships without the OS? That kills the deal.

No, the OS is always installed on the HDD.

That would be if you kept the HDD and added the SSD. But, without the HDD, they install the OS on the SSD.

My mom wants to get my dad a laptop for 500 or less and the only thing it's missing is the touchscreen. Ugh I have one and never use it, I think I need to put my foot down and get this for him cause it's a beast for the price.

You can but the included SSD is a PCIe NVMe which is considerably more expensive than the standard SSD. In my opinion it is better to place a regular SSD in the empty slot where the 500GB was supposed to go.
Thank you - so in other words, keep the built-in SSD and then add another SSD seperately - and i will be able to use both at the same time ? Sorry for my ignorance Big Grin
