Fantastic deal on an awesome set! I've owned an almost identical set for many years and no tools have failed me yet, and they have seen some crazy projects.

This was 149.99 for the past week or so with $51.50 back in points. There was also a craftsman $20 off 120 that stacked. Current price isn't good IMO

These sets are a great base for getting started but be aware, most of the 270 pcs are hex keys and screwdriver bits. If you need one good all around set for basic weekend DIY, this is good but if you are looking for something you will use everyday you can build a nice set for about another $100.. My recommendation in that case:

Wrenches.. $50.. This is a 20pc set of ratcheting wrenches, lifetime guarantee from GearWrench and they are nice.. I have a set, love them. Can't get a nice set of plain wrenches for the same money.

http://www.sears.com/gearwrench-2...lsrc=aw.ds

Ratchets.. $63.. 2pc set (1/4" and 3/8") same GearWrench warranty, 120 tooth, flex head and cushion grip..

https://www.amazon.com/GearWrench...EXUY4?th=1

Sockets.. $125.. 176pc set.. lifetime guarantee from Craftsman. (Sears is on their way out but the Craftsman brand will be around for a long time)

And if you still have a few bucks in your budget,

Screwdrivers.. $50.. 8pc set.. made by JH Williams, who also makes Snap On. These are essentially the same as my $135 set of Snap On screwdrivers without the name and price tag. Pricier than the Craftsman and big box brands but good screwdrivers are well worth the difference.

https://www.amazon.com/Williams-1...B002NH5F30

This setup would make a very nice upgrade over the Craftsman set and give you something to build on for the rest of your life. These are the tools you want to spend your money on. Almost anything else can be Harbor Freight or big box brands unless you are truly working as a professional heavy mechanic..

Excellent deal, unless you're looking for SYWR points. Got one of these sets 10 years ago for a wedding present and it's literally saved me thousands of dollars. If you need a starter set just get it!

That looks like it's worth watching. I think Craftsman's wrenches are s**t anyway. I am really just in need of sockets and a storage case anyway. My current socket "set" was piecemealed together and I always seem to be missing the odd one I need in the midst of a project.

After reviewing the 258 piece set, you get more "actual tools" than this 270 pc. More sockets and wrenches (and 3 universal joints) and less screwdriver bits is basically the difference. However the coupons won't work with it (as it's a "hot buy"), so it's $140 for that vs $120 for this set after coupon. The 258 piece might still be worth the extra $20. However, it's not in stock- available Dec 29 sayeth the Sears lords.
