They just dropped another $20 on this already great deal, now save $70 instead of the original $50!!! Now $329!! Wholly smokes!

Best Buy has 34" LG 34UM68-P 2560x1080 IPS LED 21:9 UltraWide FreeSync Monitor On Sale -$329.99 Save $70 (Reg. $399.99). (Includes free standard shipping or store pickup) [bestbuy.com]

This was previously posted and listed as expired because the best buy $25 credit w/visa checkout was no longer active.

However the sale on the monitor is still valid and I purchased one.. When this monitor was first released it was $650

In regards to this being only a 1080p monitor, my friend got a 27" 4k monitor and for says for gaming, he doesn't notice much difference at 4k vs his old 1080p. However other things regarding text, video or photos make a big difference with higher 2k and 4k resolutions.

I say this because most people hold out for a 1440p Ultrawide for like 3x more money. I have a GTX 1080p and want to always have everything on max settings running at the highest frame rate possible. At 1080 resolution that wont happen for a long time on this ultrawide. Also for gaming you wont notice too much of a visual difference from 1080 to 1440p.

The thing I'm wondering about however is the refresh rate. I currently have a BenQ 27" 144hz 1ms monitor which is amazing. The LG 34um68 does 75hz. I wonder if I will notice much of a difference from 144 to 75. I know people say they notice a BIG difference just going 60 to 75.. So hopefully I'll be happy with 75.

Also for those wondering about the difference from the 34um67 that was previously on sale for cheaper. The main difference being a better FreeSync range (40-75 vs 48-75) The stand on the 67 is not adjustable, where the 68 is fully adjustable including height. The 68 has a slightly higher brightness rating. 68 has better quality control on backlight bleed.

***UPDATE AFTER RECEIVING MONITOR****

So Best Buy came through and I got my monitor today!!!! 6 Days early, sweet!

Ok, so I got some things to report....

1. I LOVE IT! No regrets what so ever coming from 1ms 144hz 27" benq. The resolution is the same as what I'm used to at 1080p. For text and everything it's exactly the same, I see no complaints.

2. Colors are bright and vibrant, blacks are amazing.. Picture 100% happy.

3. The refresh rate... Ok here's the important stuff for you guys. I set the monitor to enable freesync and set monitor to 75hz. While testing some games, it seemed pretty choppy.. I thought, ok I'm just used to 144hz so thats why.. But it was pretty bad, so I decided to try turning off Freesync and just running at 60hz... WOW!!! What a difference.. It pretty much looks like what I was used to on my 144hz monitor.. I'm a solid 60fps and it's smooth as butter. (You know like when you watch videos on youtube at 60, yeah, that's it)...

The reason is that I have Nvidia card... Well yes, I get 75hz.. but on the monitor it enables freesync, and the Nvidia just doesn't know to do with that signal, so the 75 fps is all funky kind've choppy. If you have an AMD Radeon, 75hz would be spectacular and you'd be fine.

So just going default 60fps is what you want to do if you have NVIDIA, do not set 75hz no matter what. Perhaps in the future Nvidia will step down a notch from their high horse and enable the freesync standard to run on their cards.

GREAT MONITOR.. It was definitely a big upgrade for me, even though i came from a 1ms 144hz monitor.. The ultra wide is everything, and OMG Movies .. It's like being in the theater.

I'm in the market for a 144hz monitor at the moment. Everyone I've talked to has said once you go to 144hz you'll never want to go back

Yeah, I've heard the same. Well, once I get my monitor, I'll try the 2 and let you guys know if I notice a difference and if it's worth downgrading or not.

You better be outputting more than 75FPS in your games if you want to take advantage of 144hz. Basically you better have an incredible graphics card setup to play the most modern games on their highest settings at 75+FPS.

That's why a lot of people settle for these monitors. That and because ultrawides rock at productivity too. Its the best of both worlds. You can game and you can multitask like a beast. When you split the screen in half of an ultrawide you have two virtual 4:3 monitors. Websites are created for 4:3 ratio. Want to see? Try taking two browser windows in your (crappy) 16:9 monitor and snapping them side by side. Now browse websites and you will notice that you will have to scroll sideways to completely view text on many websites. Not on ultrawides! You can multitask multiple applications without side scrolling. Your sanity will be saved and your ability to multitask increases tremendously. It's like having two monitors without any borders. Also you save on electricity too because you are only running one monitor Smilie

I am the author of the original Best Buy deal on the 34UM68 but now I think I will hold out for a deal on the 34UM67. Supposedly the newer 68 has less chance for blacklight bleed but worse input lag:

Do FreeSync and/or speakers add a lot of cost to monitors, or is the price just an Ultrawide thing? This price compares unfavorably to just getting 3x 1080p IPS monitors which frequently are $100 on SlickDeals.

This ultrawide: 2560x1080 (2,764,800 pixels) and 420 viewable square inches @ $349
3x 1080p 23-inch: 5760x1080 (6,220,800 pixels, or 125% more) and 675 viewable square inches (61% more) @ $300 (14% less)

Not trying to threadcrap, just wondering if Ultrawides are worth the cash. I realize there are advantages like not having bezels in the middle of the display, taking up less desk space, only requiring one video input, etc. etc.

I purchased this with freesync because on this monitor you can enable freesync and then change your monitor settings through windows to 75hz with the Nvidia card.

So I'll still get 75hz even without freesync, and if my card is faster than the monitor all I need is Vsync on and I'll be locked at a solid 75fps without any tearing anyways..

A 34" Ultrawide is about the same size as a 27" 16:9 as far as the height.

I played Elder Scrolls Online last night with my 6700k, 32gb ram, 512 SSD, Nvidia 1080p, Gigabyte gamer 3 computer (which i got a great deal from cyberpc here on SD.. Thanks guys). I set my monitor to 60hz and yes it was complete garbage coming from 144hz. However I put it at 100hz and couldn't really tell a difference from the 144hz".. Also in that game when I'm near a city the frame rate, with ultra settings, was droping to around 60 -80 fps anyways. So when the FPS was at 75, I was looking at the screen and it was still buttery smooth like 100hz or for that matter 144hz.

For me personally, I think I'll be happy with ultrawide at 75hz as far as smoothness for the type of games I play. I'm not an esports or fps competative guy.

And if I dont like it... I'll just return it Smilie

Single Monitor, less power consumption than 3x monitors.. No Bessels.. It costs to be able to refresh that many pixles on a single screen with higher refresh rates. Everything is going to cost a little more on the individual monitor just for the fact it's bigger on one individual device. You are looking at $349.. If you jump up to the other ultrawide 1440p's they are $1000!!! So explain that! LOL
